Jim brings up some additional interesting fails that Forbes didn't touch upon.

Linearity is not a bad thing, but The Order has no interest whatsoever in exploration, curiosity, or player agency. You’re allowed to run only when the game tells you, your hand is held by immersion-breaking tutorial pop-ups that never stop and cannot be turned off, you’ll come to doors that you know you can open, but are barred from touching until the patronizing prompt appears.

Much of your progress is stuttered as you are forced to stop and start through a level constantly, with no real flow to the events that unfold – just as you begin to get into the action, another long cutscene will pull you out of it, or yet another door will bar your path and arbitrarily halt you until it’s ready for your prescribed interaction.

Narratively, the game is a prologue as opposed to a full-fledged story, concerned only with building to a crescendo that never comes. Just as things finally get interesting and the plot unfolds… the credits roll. In the final chapters of the game, we deal with revelations that would occur halfway through any complete story but are instead used here solely to set up a sequel, to the point where I’d say 1886 is nothing BUT one big teaser for a presumptuously pre-planned franchise.

Depends on the game. I loved Heavy Rain and that game is pretty much 95% QTE's.

Heavy Rain is in a special category though. More of a focus on the story than the actual gameplay. Just like Telltale games are. I don't think anyones gonna complain about QTE in those.

Finished the game(about 8 hours). storytelling is seamlessly integrated with game play, narration never stops. Like a good movie, also really enjoyed the lore.

I hope they will be a sequel. I really hate cliffhanger endings.

Been watching the campaign on youtube, and it kinda reminds me of Gears of War -- just slower, with worse enemy AIs and combat, and without chainsaw guns.

I like the atmosphere and world of the game and want more of it. I just wish they did a better job though.

It's Ready at Dawn's first major console title, they did the god of war psp games, so I'll let it slide.

Skip to 2:40:00 for the ending and enjoy the appropriate reaction to this game.

I just watched the ending and that was indeed some "written by a ninth grader" bullshit. I too probably would have been furious after spending $60 and having to put up with such a ridiculous ending on top of still doing button prompts at the very end. I do think the guy screaming and pounding stuff in the background was a little over the top, but hey, everyone streaming media on their channel is trying to garner attention so whatever.

It probably looks like attention whoring out of context, it was more fun to watch the stream live. This was after about 8 hours of "playing" the pseudo-gameplay cutscenes.
