With Putin in charge?
Hah.
With Putin in charge?
Hah.
Shouldnt be gay in an olympiczone.
Yeah, at least then the human rights violations will target the poor instead of the gay like they should.
Really surprised the IOC ducked out like that, I thought they might try to apply pressure to Russia. I wonder if there's major breach of contract issues that could arise for them if they had threatened to take it back to Vancouver. I'm frankly not sure as to what's more dignified for LGB athletes or those who support LGBT causes between boycotting, or showing up and winning.
-Show up
-Win
-Swap the track for your country's national anthem with "It's Raining Men"
-Proceed to make out with silver
i hate Putin as i hate hell but the entire point of the Olympics was to set aside political differences for athletic competition, the Greek city states would literally declare a ceasefire if they were at war with one another to go see their athletes compete
i wish the IOC would offer some kind of protection to their athletes should the Russians try something so stupid as to imprison gay members of other nations (which i think extremely unlikely at worst they would deport them) but taking the Olympics away from Russia would defeat the purpose of the games
that said i hope every athlete of every nation wears rainbows-colored track suits
It could be easily argued that taking the Olympics away from Russia would be the major purpose of the games, as it is them that are not setting aside other countries political differences in claiming foreign athletes are going to be subject to their laws.
I do agree that people should not protest, because of what you said. It's another to arrest an athlete for saying he's gay. That's not accepting differences.
if Russia does carry out its threat to arrest the athletes of other nation-states they should be banned from future Olympics for violating the ancient principle of the Olympic truce, which is the stance i wish the IOC would adopt. protect their athletes first and foremost, but do not allow political differences to dictate the proceedings of the games.
and if i had to guess i'd say Russia is posturing. to arrest say an American gold medalist who wears a rainbow bracelet would be a diplomatic disaster with very limited gains for them.
fuck the spectators right?
Putin is such a troll, on a global scale. He just makes it look so easy.
This whole thing is fucked up though. It's like Russia is just pushing and pushing to see how much shit the world will take.
He's not doing anything to the world.
The good trolls never do. "I'm not touching you" "It's not in your face its in my hand."
I love the members of the nation where gay people can't be married in most states chastizing the country where talking about gay means arrest.
WE JUST GOT SORT OF ENLIGHTENED LIKE LAST YEAR AND NOW I AM OUTRAGED THAT YOU AREN'T SORT OF ENLIGHTENED TOO!
Shit we were arresting people for having gay sex in America THIS YEAR.
but HOW DARE YOU RUSSIA?!
Oddly quiet on countries that actively hunt down and murder their queer problems, regardless I truly doubt Russia gives a flying fuck what the US or the world thinks in regards to this just like Sweden doesn't give a flying fuck about empress Oprah and her croc purse racism. Only thing surprising about this to me is that people like Seji seem to think that Russia does these things to antagonize his country.
If Russia is a land of no fucks given them i'm sure they won't mind moving the games elsewhere. Now if only the IOC gave a fuck.
