They'd care in that this is the largest dollar investment ever made for a Winter Olympics, but the games getting moved would just give them more 'the West vs. Us' fuel.

Don't know why any country cares about hosting the Olympics whatsoever, let them get their national pride by winning all the medals not wasting money. Excluding China blowing massive amounts of money during the Olympics in an attempt to change the world opinion about them, the Olympics are usually a net-loss economically speaking, Athens was in debt for 15 years after theirs and there are multiple studies that show there is almost no boost to tourism. Only cities i can recall off the top of my head benefiting from the Olympics financially are Los Angeles because they already had the existing infrastructure. Take the Olympics from Russia and save them the money and homosexuals can go to a gay friendly place everyone wins as long as it's not moved to one of the other 76+ countries with laws against homosexuals.
It's more points towards cultural victory.
I think what some athletes have been doing in Moscow is good enough for me.
what just happened?

I oppose when officials in my country discriminate against gay people the same way I oppose Russian officials who back this legislation.Originally Posted by archibaldcrane

When you say in Moscow do you mean Russian athletes? Because i can find dozens of swedish/NZ/US athletes coming out against the laws but only one Russian athlete in the news in regards to it and she is in favor of it.

I was saying that having athletes speak in support of LGBT rights is good enough for me. For example the American runner dedicating his medal to his gay friends and the swedish athlete with her rainbow painted nails.
Of more specifically, anti-western. Putin probably trying to court the butthurt about the west being better than us vote.
thanks obama
Russia still exports a lot of oil last I heard.
they do, and are major movers in natural gas, lumber, and precious metals, making them significant players with our European allies, but we trade very little with them. Total U.S.-Russian trade amounts to 40 billion dollars annually, whereas U.S.-Canadian trade, for example, is 616 billion annually.
saw news that two female russian athletes competing in moscow made out on the podium, but i haven't seen it in other media yet so i'm skeptical
