Calm down with the thread shitting. Realize this happens because their cross-server tech is awful and years behind, not because of having an automated tool.

I have used your GW2 site while playing GW2. Sometimes the only "socitalization" that existed was saying "Hi, I'll join" (or not even that since you can invite yourself to someone else's party). Easy dungeons kill socialization and no cross-server communication puts the nails in the coffin. I think the actual LFG tool has little to do with it.

If the dungeons and encounters are somewhat complex/hard then parties will actually need to talk about how to beat them, and they'll most likely care about staying in touch with good players after the dungeon is over.

Go to their server if you wanna have fun with them

Find duty is to do dungeon accomplish something, not to find your next stalker

    Pretty much this.
The system isn't based so you can make new buddies. It's designed so if you're stuck on a dungeon and you can't get a party together because there's no damn healer anywhere or no DDs or whatever else you may be looking for, the system will match you up so you can progress with the quest/dungeon/farming/whatever the fuck you wanted to do that night, instead of sit around and wait for someone to magically send you a party invitation while you sit around waiting. That was the deal in XI and it sucked balls.

You don't like it? You want to use 4 CNJs in Halatali? Go ahead, don't use the system and form that group on your own.

I for one think the duty finder will come into use all the way up just before endgame. What better way to go farming that one tanking body piece you want from x dungeon than to repeatedly do it with people using duty finder when your friends aren't on/aren't available to help?

I think it will work great for what its meant for, a quick run. At the very least DF guarantees the random person actually has been to the dungeon entrance. I found it a bit unsettling the amount of people that I would get from a shout, invite them, then discover that they did not even know where to go, wait forever for them to find it before could even enter.

It's good for that purpose but it could be used for so much more. For example you should be able to communicate with someone on another server anytime in game. You should be able to add people from other servers to your friend list and even start a party with them and use duty finder to fill in the gaps. I mean they had a chance to set themselves apart from other games here. Instead we got a step backwards where you can't even whisper people on your own server while in a dungeon.

This is absolutely right. It doesn't change the fact that if the game was not so outdated, when one night I run into a really good healer or a really good DD, I could simply start my next dungeon run with them.

I can understand why this system seems perfect when the only game you have played is FFXI, but when you have been experiencing a better tool since 2009 and games with godly cross-server tech since 2011, it's a little hard to give them any credit for the outdated systems they're offering us.

I like that that you can't whisper in a dungeon

Will make people focus more and less chat about Justin Bieber or One direction

I'm not saying I don't understand where you're coming from, I just think that for now it'll serve its purpose. After all, this will not be used for anything more than a light party dungeon run, MAYBE some full party runs. I doubt people will attempt a full raid alliance using duty finder.

Also, thank god for no whispers in a dungeon. It actually makes you pay attention... which is a godsend when you're only 4 people and if one person slacks, it's a lot more noticeable than in a bigger group setup. Also, as far as I'm aware, linkshell chat still works.

Speaking of tells and chats and what not, is there a way to lock those on the top of the chat screen before they go away? I filtered out pretty much everything but damage taken by me as far as battle chatter goes, but I still miss linkshell chats and tells sometimes and they just roll by. Also, there's no mechanism like in XI where you could expand the text box to full screen to see what you missed it seems, so I have to manually scroll up to look for it which is madly frustrating on a PS3.

Friend wants to get an invite to my linkshell but I'm running a dungeon? Too bad.
Friend wants to join me for dungeon runs but we aren't in the same linkshell? Too bad.
Friend needs my help with something but he can't inform me because I'm in a dungeon. Too bad.

All you will say "wait till after the dungeon to do all that."

Fine but 90% of the time I decide to do dungeons, I do multiple dungeons in a row. Either grinding exp, or hoping to get a specific drop. So I'm in a group and we do a dungeon. Walk out and walk right back in. For 2-3 hours. Tell me how people are going to know that 10 second window when you aren't "bound by duty."

A solution would be to send a tell back to the person after you are no longer in dungeon. "Player Name is no longer bound by duty and can accept tells."

However, it really doesn't hurt anything to be able to RECEIVE tells just not be able to respond to them.

Hopefully they'll lock alt tabbing while in dungeons next, then we'll have come full circle

Yeah not receiving tells in dungeons is absolutely terrible. The biggest gripe I have about the game.

You can't even send tells to people IN the dungeons. Like when I was with my friend and wanted to say something related to RL shit but couldn't even though we were in the same dungeon. Or if I want to give advice to someone who doesn't understand something about the fight without calling them out in front of everyone.

I actually agree about tells in the same dungeon. Me and my friend were in a party with a terrible PUG and I wanted to say something about it to my friend privately, but couldn't... we were in the same LS so we could just talk there, but it was still annoying.

Ardrial, I agree with maybe allowing tells to come to you, but how would not responding back be alright? At that point the person doesn't know if you're in a duty or not and will just get pissed off that you're not responding lol.

Either they allow it completely, or don't do it at all.

I'd rather it be gone completely because it's a MMORPG. The point is online, with other people. Communicating. I spend 90% of my chatting in wow through tells because a.) friends aren't in same guild or b.) sometimes shit i have to say is something i don't want the entire party/linkshell to hear.

Cutting out a HUGE form of communication in an online world built around playing with friends is just silly.

Also, for your question. They could just say "Player name has received your message but cannot respond till out of dungeon."

I mean they already have a message anyway. They can just edit what it says.

I know the real reason for this. It's not to avoid distraction like people think. It's because square-enix is so behind on their shit that they don't know how to allow people to communicate cross servers. Or don't care to.

I think I should be able to receive tells, so I know what's going on. At the very least. And the fact that you cannot communicate through tells during solo instances (hello long ass level 15 fight) or through CS is pretty bogus.

WOW and GW2 has had pretty much 100% cross server gameplay with guesting and whatever the hell it's called in WOW for months now. They have no excuse that they can't even implement working cross-server tells/friendlist properly. NONE at all.

Yes they do. It's to expensive and they don't want to.
