Well as long as you don't make my exact character but with the colors flipped I shouldn't have anything to worry about! But yeah, I tried to make my hair the same color as my face paint and right eye, then my highlights the same color as my lips, tattoo, and left eye. You know, getting all symmetrical with it. I'm hoping enough people think the half face looks like shit so that I might have a small chance of looking unique. Of course I could be wrong on this point and end up being part of the downy half face Xx[InsertCharacterName]xX crew.

I think your character looks cool. I've been playing around a lot in the character creation, literally hours upon hours. Personally I am reserved with tattoos, face paint and scars, but as a character starts to develop in a certain direction I will add those things if it starts to fit the characters backstory. Every character has their own backstory. Like my blond female highlander, she has one blue eye and one white eye, and because of that white eye her clan marked her face with a white tattoo and that is why she wears her hair in front of that white eye. It was done to her, not by her, and it is a mark she is self-conscious of. (she was even the only character I made with heterochromia iridum.)

If it makes sense to you and to the story of your character, go for it. War paint of her clan/tribe/people, symbol of her calm spirit in the heat of battle, something like that.

I also think that when they release the barber shops not only hair will be able to be changed but perhaps the face paints too.

I hadn't considered a story for my character to be honest. Since you mentioned it I'm thinking she was painting her Chocobo a different shade of yellow and ended up passing out due to the fumes (she was painting inside, big mistake). Hours later she awoke only to find that half her face had been submerged in the paint as she slept. If anyone asks she says its a tradition in her family, but we all know the truth.

I hadn't even heard of that. I'd be much less reserved/apprehensive about my look if I knew I could just change it down the line.

P.s. I like your Highlander as well, especially with the background story.

Half of them are too "Beauty and the Beast" for my liking. There are 3 or so that are really good, but they'll probably be overused.

The Elezen ladies look good at an angle but looking straight at them something seems off. I really like the Roegadyn though, I can barely tell it's a Roegadyn.

Of course! I genuinely like the look so if I also happen to have more of a rare look its just a win win. In the past though (most recently GW2) I've kept my face completely clear so hopefully I don't get tired of it after a week or two!

I think they said you could change face paint too when they add the barber shop after launch, so you could always change your mind!

Yeah, they said you would be able to change hairstyle/color and facepaint/color. Scars, eye color, skintone, etc., however, will all be permanent (obviously).

At launch there will be a 1 time re-roll of all 1.0 characters. They have features and additions planned for several updates beyond launch and one feature they say will be in patch 2.1 is a barbershop which will allow hair style and color change. I have looked through their forums and it took a lot of digging but I found this in one of Reinheart's translation threads:

Yoshi: Pretty much fixed. I’ll talk about it since it was brought up during today’s live broadcast, in patch 2.1 we’re are going to release barber, also with this patch 2.1 the number of hair styles will increase a lot. So at launch just think of it as this much for now, and later on you can choose from more styles so it’s okay to freely choose one at first. It’s pretty hard on the system but even on the PS3 version we have applied differed lighting, and pushed the modifications to the lighting or shadow put on the face. There are more highlights and face paints as well, you can also reverse the facepaint now (reworded)

I really want to roll Elvaan for P4, but I'm having difficulty achieving this look. Primary issue seems to be skin color and facial hair. They should just make facial hair universal imo.

I want to roll elvaan M as well, but I'm having quite the difficult time getting one not to look like shit. I hate how anorexic their faces are. The males anyway. I know it's not the same exact from XI, but none of the other races seem to suffer from this sickly look.

I may end up either going Highlander F or Elvaan F. Not sure yet. Been spending most of my beta time in the character creator :<

Well yeah, I don't mind so much the lanky/lean look. It's just more the facial structure in XIV, too bony. It might be good to go another route anyway. New game and all.
