that was a culture shock. chilling in a bar in norway and a troupe of chicks walked up on us offering drinks? refused the first 2 waves and were finally like "fuck it" and went along with it. no complaints from that point on.

Idk man, I've seen that Stockholm street style blog... The women there look pretty done up

What do you mean by the bold?

Thanks for the tips! That seems weird though that Stockholm is more expensive to eat/drink in than NYC (where I live)!

Why would food cost more depending on ones age? How will they be able to tell? (We'll both be 31 by the time we will be there)

Stockholm is incredibly expensive, talking about 10

    10 dollar

    10 dollar 6-inch.

    Oslo is even worse.

Relative to our populations, Sweden and Norway (and Denmark I guess?) are obscenely rich countries, the general wealth level is pretty high compared to pretty much all other countries which is reflected in high price levels. Our capitals are amongst the most expensive places in the world. While we have income distribution inequality problems like every other country in the world, your average Scandinavian is pretty well off (and high maintenance).

Denmark, Sweden and Norway have the least income distribution inequalities of any nation on earth.

Sweden's median income is higher than the median American income, which is one of the reasons it's so expensive. For example, as a chef, my boyfriend makes 23 USD an hour, and as a membership recruiter I make 19 USD an hour. Even as a waiter you make a minimum of 15 USD an hour, which is why Swedes generally only tip if the service is good since they don't rely on tips to survive.
What do you mean by the bold?
It was supposed to say "and something to drink" <.< Edit: and it's not food that changes price based on age, it's stuff like busses, trains, planes, museums etc. SAS for example allows you to travel for half price if you're under 25. The busses, subway etc. have reduced price if you're under 20, museums etc. have reduced price depending on age, too, and I think it's 25. Arkansas Express have a half price deal for under 25 as well, and that's a very convenient way to get from the airport to Stockholm.

Also, there's places all around Stockholm that allows you to rent bicycles that you just pick up and leave at a station, so if you're able to you should definitely explore Stockholm by bicycle, as you can get almost anywhere by bike. Additionally, you should take the "Stockholm by water" tour where they take you around Stockholm archipelago, it's beautiful and gives you a completely different view of Stockholm.

It might be more fun to do during the summer, but you could always rent some kayaks and kayak around in the archipelago, too. Bring a tent, some food, and kayak out to an island to camp for a day. Like I said, might be more fun to do during e summer when it's warmer, but if you want to hike, there's several forests to do it in, like Nacka Naturreservat.

There's also a new thing I haven't tried yet called "Stockholm Rooftops" or something like that, where a guide takes you around Stockholm from rooftop to rooftop that's supposed to be really cool, but I can't vouch for it since I haven't tried it myself.

If you really want to see Aurora Borealis, you should visit Northern Sweden during the winter sometime. At http://www.abiskomountainlodge.se/en/ you're almost guaranteed to see Aurora Borealis during the winter months. You could also visit the Kiruna Ice Hotel, which is absolutely stunning, and also gives a high chance of seeing an Aurora Borealis.

Last year in Stockholm during December you could experience a phenomenon called "Light Pillars", which is something I've never seen before and was beautiful too, although not as amazing to see as Aurora Borealis. What is the weather like in the region during late Sept/Early Oct? Were totally down with, and would even prefer, riding around bikes for the bulk of our getting around should the weather hold up.

Is this the rooftop tour? http://www.upplevmer.se/en/takvandring/

As far as food, I really don't mind paying more if I know that the food is fresh and good. Although I'm also down for street food.

I believe we have settled on visiting Helsinki, Oslo and Copenhagen while we are there :D

    Ya, that's the one.

The weather depends. Last year we had the first snowfall in late October, but that's rare. Usually it's cloudy with the occasional rainfall, but overall it's not that bad. Summer usually start going away late August, early September, so you'll get here perfectly for the beginning of fall when the trees are beautiful with the leaves changing color.

Update: Hej! I just got back into the states a few days ago, and I had a really great time! I took lots of pics and posted a few on the fly while I was abroad to my instagram, but I haven't had a chance to upload any others yet.

I think you meant Arlanda Express? But yeah, we ended up taking this from the airport to the city center when we first arrived and while it was a smooth ride with included wifi, we ended up paying like $45 for a 20 minute 1 way trip, which was a lot more than I expected. We had to make a couple more trips to Arlanda so we ended up taking the $15 bus for the remainder of them.

I really loved Stockholm though! I could easily live there. We stayed in Sodermalm right off the Skandsull station on the green line (I think?).

We went to a friend of a friends birthday party there and met a lot of sweet people. Whoever said it was right, Americans are so popular there. We were cornered by everyone who wanted to asked us everything about current American events (it was a bit embarrassing due to the current state of politics in the US) and NYC where we live. The food was great, expensive, but I felt that I got what I paid for.

We went to Fotografiska and Morderna Museet as far as museums are concerned. Did a lot of walking around, shopping, and fika'd like our ship was going down. :D

I really liked Copenhagen as well. Of course I swung by the Acne Archive and Norse Projects. Lots of shopping options in CPH that were right up my alley.

Helsinki was ok, I felt that 1 day there was good enough

Thanks for all the tips and pointers guys!

I'm glad you had a nice time! It's a nice city, lots of things to do. As someone loving in Stockholm, it's easy to take it for granted and not appreciate the beauty of it.
