This week has been absolutely abysmal for Boston sports, and I don't even like most of the teams. I'm sure Aksannyi and others are just bouncing with glee over it all.

Funny you bring this up. Yesterday I didn't want to work so I went back and read the 2011 playoff thread to see how much anti-Boston posting was going on when the Canucks lost. It was actually fairly mild, but that's not really the point of this post.

My point was - during that thread, nynja made a bet with various people that the B's wouldn't make the 2011 playoffs. They did, and were rightfully bounced out by the Caps. Did anyone ever get him to pay out?

I've seen it said that Shero should threaten to have Letang play out next year at his current salary (3.5) if he doesn't take the deal. The loss of a guaranteed salary, not to mention possible poor performance or injury, could just twist his arm enough to sign. That'd be an interesting risk to take. I'm not saying I agree with the idea, but it is kind of an amusing thought.

hes getting paid 3.5m next year regardless of what happens. Whether its in Pittsburgh or we trade him this weekend and he signs an extension with his new team, his salary next year is 3.5. period. Any extensions he signs with us or elsewhere would begin in 2014-2015.

Yeah, I worded that poorly. The point was without the guarantee he risks a lot that can lower his value, while the chances of him raising his value aren't as high.

But it's a nice gesture from them and shows respect, which we and anyone else would appreciate. I don't have anything against the Hawks, I think they are a great team and it was a great series between the two teams.
