Also there were a lot of rumors floating of a Hossa buy out not this year but next year due to Towes and Kane needing new contracts. With these buy outs that can no longer happen unless one of these players get claimed on waivers.

Per Kaberle buyout. Clubs need to put a player on waivers to buy out. If a player has a no-move, the player can elect not to go on waivers.

It may be a thing.... or it may just bypass waivers? Very odd lol.

I think a player can refuse to go on waivers so they can't get claimed by a team they have no interest in playing for.

That's my understanding, they still get bought out but if they have a NMC they can choose to go straight to UFA status without the waivers.

Hossa retiring would be bad for the hawks since his deal would count against their cap hit still.

Interesting tidbits from Hawks final media day: Shaw suffered a broken rib against Detroit, played through it on top of his face injuries in game six, Bolland says he has been dealing with a groin and wrist injury, Mayers will decide in the upcoming weeks if he wants to retire or go another year, Bickell said he wants to stay here and is willing to take a hometown discount. Handzus wants to stay also. Kruger and Bolland also said they needed off the ice after the tying goal because they were tired and didn't want to fuck up lol.

Yeah I forgot about cap recapture, I'm torn between not wanting to see CBA circumvention and thinking it's kind of dumb to punish people for something that was technically within the rules when they did it.
