Devils can't recoup the 1st rd pick. Doubt NHL will get it back, Devils treated that situation very poorly and Bettman himself dished out the penalty IIRC (or played a heavy part in it aswell as creating the retirement recapture penalty for backdiving deals). The Penalty isn't for having a lot of money on your books, the penalty is for being flippant to the NHL rules of the 2005-2012 CBA and waving a middle finger in Bettman and his precious 2004 lockout's CBA face by signing a $110 20 year deal with the last 8 years being at league minimum or w/e that one was that finally broke the camel's back.

He wanted out. Gillis promised to trade him. Now Gillis has traded Schneider for basically nothing, because Luongo's contract is impossible to move if you live in Gillis-land and think people should be trading you players to take that bad joke off your hands. So now it's not only known that he didn't really want to be there, but now he's also the reason they traded away their new star goalie for nothing. Gillis has fucked Luongo six ways from Sunday, and if I were him, I'd be strongly considering not reporting, too.

He's a good goalie and a great guy, and he's being treated like garbage by his GM. Fuck that.
