Budget machine for XIV

XIV runs fine on my machine but I'm trying to help out a friend who needs a very cheap machine which can run ARR. The min specs are below and are from the site

Windows® Vista 32/64bit, Windows® 7 32/64 bit
CPU Intel® Core™2 Duo
Memory 2GB (4GB recommended for 64bit OS)
Available space on hard disk/SSD 20GB
Graphics Card NVIDIA® Geforce® 8800 or higher, ATI Radeon™ HD 4770 or higher
Screen Resolution 1280x720
Internet Persistent broadband internet connection required
Sound Card DirectSound® compatible sound card (DirectX® 9.0c or higher)
DirectX® DirectX® 9.0c or higher

Am I right in thinking the following will run ARR fine? Not familiar with AMD comparisons... http://www.ebuyer.com/504520-zoostor...p-pc-7873-1082

- AMD A8 5500 3.2GHz APU

You should be fine, I've playing it a bit on my laptop (Asus G75) in addition to my pimped out desktop, and it has been totally playable on high settings there.

Thanks for posting that... For some reason it didn't even occur to me... Would help them out of a spot until their financial situation improves...

Not to be a bitch, but if they have financial problems, they should fix that problem before thinking of playing this game, not because this game cost a lot (it doesn't) but mostly so they don't get sucked up in the game and forget their debt

This game seems to play pretty well on a PS3, and will do even better on a PS4. What's wrong with playing on a PS3? I prefer gamepad to kb + mouse for this game too, feels much better.

Keyboard and mouse targetting is so much better.

I feel that the UI is so well designed that add-ons are not required at all, it's not FFXI levels of horrible UI. KB/mouse targetting isn't better once you get used to the controls and use LB + ABXY to swap targetting.

Gear comparison, all in one bag, inventory auto sort, being able to SEE what's in retainer, being able to see gathering spots on map.

All of these things are something that would help out. A lot. And the community will be much faster about implementing them then SE will.

And that's just off the top of my head.

I preordered for PS3 and was planning on playing PS3, but my laptop was able to handle the game on standard settings well, except for the client crashing which isn't a problem with my machine according to beta forums. Now I'm really tempted to play PC often, because I'm able to play with controller (which i prefer) but use the mouse for more ease of targeting in a pinch.

I hear what you're saying but it's me who wants to help them out rather than them pushing for it. Debt isn't the issue here, just lowish income right now. That situation is likely to improve in a few months.

With the right mind, a MMORPG should save them money in the long run providing they don't get sucked up/forget their debt. So while it seems bad to spend more money in the initial run, the investment should allow them to save money in the long run.

hmm, I was possibly thinking of selling my old machine since I don't use it anymore. Wasn't sure on price though, and the case does have minor "interior damage" (couldn't ft the video card in so had to bend the metal casing a bit).

Off the top my head~ (the system has everything excluding a hardrive, and obviously windows, well no keyboard/mouse/monitor)
intel 920
DVD drive
radeon 5870
8GB ram
soundblaster Xgamer
mid tower case
I believe the power supply is 600 or 650

Runs FFXIV on maximum settings at 1920x1080 at 35-50fps (was phase 2, probably improved slightly since then)

I managed to get a deal on a secondhand PS3 for my friend via a local game store so she'll have that until the point she can upgrade her PC next year.

Not a bad way to go, especially considering that we'll probably know how well the PS4 version runs by that point which should still cost substantially less than a PC of equivalent stature.
