A bit of a dull episode. James May repeatedly getting water splashed in the face was comical though.

Not sure why Jeremy insists of tearing up the rental car. I might have missed a joke somewhere?

That's what you do with rental cars.

My friend is a huge fan of this show. I caught a few episodes while in London and rather enjoyed the nuance of them. What season/series should I start on? Just begin at 1?

Honestly you can just watch any of them, it's all pretty good imo.

Begin at approximately Season 3 in my opinion. The earlier ones are when:

    1. The show was not as popular (plenty of breathing room in the original studio)
    2. James May didn't join until end of Season 1/start of Season 2 (I forget)
    3. It took a bit of time for them to meld together as well as they are now, which I believe starts becoming comical Season 3 and on

Earlier seasons are still good if you enjoy things Jeremy say, but if you like their "bro" aspect more than that then I think Season 3 should be safe. By the way there are no high quality older seasons, which can get a tiny bit annoying if you have a big screen and you're the type of person that watches things only in HD, etc (my downloads of Season 1/2 are of 240p quality )

Make sure to grab some of the "specials" they do that are not part of the seasons:

    Polar Special
    Comic Relief Special
    Winter Olympics Special

The rest of the specials are integrated into the seasons so you'll pick them up as you go around collecting.

That's what you do with rental cars.
Haha really? I know Jeremy was going to the extreme with it to the point where it's staged but it's just more headache/paperwork in my opinion lol

I can't really get into the regular episodes for some reason or another. But I absolutely love the specials and rewatch them pretty often

The specials are the best, some of the regular ones are hit or miss with me as i'm not a huge car boner type person, but there are some "experiments" they do in the regular episodes too that are hilarous (Like the one were they all go camping and Richard's makeshift house gets blown down)

My sister is similar. However Meresgi is right, there are the occasional episode that are not specials that has them do a challenge. I understand completely why some people won't be interested if they're not a car fanatic. But I feel they have enough to cater to a wide audience, car fan or not.

    Generally an episode format is:

    1. Review/Challenge Part 1/Investigation (experiment) Part 1
    2. News
    3. Challenge Part 1/Review
    4. Celeb Interview
    5. Challenge Part 2/Investigation (experiment) Part 2

Some ones to note that were :

    Race across London
USA special (which is just an episode and not an actual special, but the whole episode is the 3 travelling the USA)
    Silverstone 24 Hour Endurance Race
Africa (2008) special (note that there are 2, there is an actual special that was a 2 parter they did in 2012)
    Building their own limo
Building their own travel home inside a car (not caravan

Africa (2008) special (note that there are 2, there is an actual special that was a 2 parter they did in 2012)
I watched this special during the marathon they had going late April, instead of properly packing my luggage like I was supposed to. I do not regret my choice. It was so worth it.

Top Gear is one of the bestestest shows on TV ever. I wouldn't say I'm a car maniac either, I only know a little bit.

The one that got me was when the challenge was to convert the cars into boats. The one where they killed the unkillable car.
(Then there was the one where they had to build a Caterham whilst the Stig used one to drive to them, but after eX-Driver I have a soft spot for the things.)

Actually, checking wiki, most of the episodes we're talking about were series eight and nine, so you can't go wrong with those.
I've seen them all, and if you've got time to kill I'd say do it too (there are moments in the early series to catch). But strictly, series 1 and 2 were a bit rough, 3 and 4 is where you start seeing it come together, and anything 5+ is golden.

Top Gear fakes some things, but one thing I do not think they fake is how awkward those "new reasonably-priced car celebrity barbecue" things turn out.

Shame Tywin was only on the screen for a whole 3 seconds.
Unrelatedly, I bet people complained to the BBC about Jimmy Carr's "heightist" comments. That's kinda what he does: offend simpletons in an hilarious way.

Funny thing is, in all those "car vs treehugging" races, there's always been a point being pushed by the TG team: the car might not be the fastest (and really, they make sure the race is close and open for entertainment reasons), but it's always the most comfortable.
Veggies always miss the point, so they make it more and more obvious each time... culminating in James' loud, repeated complaints during this ep.
Ok, not everyone will find that funny; but I do.

lolololololololol 2nd episode, the taxi race segment was delicious

like previous richard hammond segments (airport vehicles, buses, and some other that i can't remember) carnage is expected.

the russian limo drifting was awesome though

    --

didn't pay attention to the star in reasonably priced car -- was kinda dull, though i guess some fans of his works wouldn't have minded.

That BBC TV centre, I knew it was closing, but I wasn't aware it was the whole building. No wonder there was so much rage.

Seeing more Mirror's Edge (parkour) was good tho :D

    ==

I kinda liked the new ferrari they reviewed (as part of their "response to the serious letter" segment). Despite the price it just looks all-around solid.

Is it wrong that I would totally eat all the crap Jeremy has cooked over the years?

I really enjoyed that last ep. Benedict Cumberbatch is a pretty funny guy too.

I loved the ghost town/airport segment. Can't believe even in Spain there's such a place.

Ya that was pretty crazy with those places in Spain all ghost towns. Need to find some of those in the US. Also the interviews so far have been pretty good this season, usually it's the only meh part of the show for me. Also Jeremy riding the bike picture was awesome.
