My takeaway from the intro was Cap learned about leg day.

I disagree with this simply because all the character development in Guardians 2 is just the same thing they did in Guardians 1 with different rearrangement. They all fight and bicker then do their own shit until finally coming together to beat the big bad. Why does no one listen or trust anyone else in this movie until shit has actually hit the fan? The only reason it wasn't pure filler is because of Mantis but in order to do that they had to reset everyone back to nothing.

And posting that fight in winter soldier solidifies it lol
Is a shitty part of all Marvel movies. Thor 3 nearly had something decent again but it was far too short. Everything else is pretty much CG camera spinfests if it requires more than a guy throwing a shield.

Thing is I don't mind the CG fights when its a huge team battle etc. but Over use of CG on a one on one fight sucks badly.

Even if this was the case so what? That's their thing and what they do. It's not an inherently good or bad thing and plenty of things get praised for that same return to familiarity. It's more about how it's done and the rest of the film... or just your personal feelings on the particular media.

Did you watch the movie? There were only two intra-group conflicts and both were explained pretty explicitly.

I'm not really sure what you want me to say to this. A return to familiarity would require a departure which I'm sure Guardians did not take. If you're talking about Star Wars then sure...up until a point people praised it. If you like consuming the same media with slightly different dressings then whatever, but I don't personally pay to see shit I've already seen. Maybe I would feel different if I didn't pay for it, then it's just 2 hours I can't get back.

No I didn't watch the movie I just say this shit randomly.

And the conflicts weren't explained well or justified at all. They just happen despite the first movie and then the writers were like how do we get back to where Guardians 1 ended and that's Guardians 2 for ya.

Honestly, this skews why alot of people like Thor 3 so much. The other two were so boring and forgettable, the bolted on Guardians elements make Thor 3 look so much better by comparison. But honestly, Thor 3 doesn't really change much. It's a fun movie to watch for sure and the humor is on the better end of Marvel outings but none of the major players change. Thor is still Thor. Loki is still Loki. Asgard is gone but no one cares much so....

Like Ant-Man and Guardians, I see Thor 3 as pure entertainment and spectacle.

Movies like Winter Soldier, Civil War and now Black Panther actually have something to say and characters change. Just the difference between Caps fighting in The First Avenger and Winter Soldier shows he's adapted his fighting style to modern combat techniques. Little details like that elevate the film while keeping continuity.

It doesn't really need it. A time lapse and being a part of something bigger like the MCU is sufficient. And no I'm not talking about Star Wars though I guess that works as it's a bit of a lot of the liked/didn't like debates about almost everything after the first trilogy revolved around them doing something similar or not.

I mean how you personally have praised shows for having the same characters do the same things in new and different situations. I mean I guess paying for it might be the difference and so TV shows get a pass. But what you described is pretty much a large amount ongoing media that is character focused when using the same cast, basically all slice of life shows, sitcoms or well basically anything episodic or hell every MCU movie that didn't directly advance the overarching infinity war plot or introduce a new important characters had a similar lack of advancement. You might not like how they implemented it or how well they expand on it (or don't) in the process but it's pretty hard to say you really don't like that in the general sense given the vast swaths of media it applies to when you want to reduce them down their character types like that and ignore the rest of the "dressing".

Selectively quoting here but I agree with this disagreement. That's been the standard for any Marvel movie with more than 1 character with stand outs being any Avengers, Civil War, and even Homecoming.

Carry on though with the discussion.

I know you're not literally talking about Star Wars lol, it's just an example.

And all I did was praise a sitcom for being a sitcom...I don't know why you're reading so much into it.

I mean it sure sounds like you didn't watch it since you're just ignoring the existence of several parts of it. Gamora's conflict with Quill is explained in both Quill's scene with Drax and Quill's scene with Gamora in the second act, as well as in the "Kevin Bacon" scene in GoTG 1. Quill's conflict with Rocket is explained in Roclet's scene with Yondu on the Milano.

    Movie is not hard.

What's to ignore? Basic conflict that arises from a lack of communication...kinda like the first movie. Shit's so simple, the only positive is that it has fun. Quill wants family in the first movie and kinda fucks off the people he was already with except for when he needs them. Quill wants a family in the 2nd one, so he fucks off the Guardians for a bit except for when he needs them again! Gamora is going against the odds to do what she believes in...again! Drax is being stupid...again! Rocket is being an asshole for no reason...again! Groot still says I Am Groot, but is cute now! Yondu is still tsundere and cares for Quill, but now he's dead. Yes I'm simplifying a lot, but if the justifications they gave you for conflict were good enough for you despite the first movie being a thing then whatever. I'm just not down with that when you only get 2 hours every couple of years to actually do something.

Like these characters are interesting enough that you can add new facets or flaws, but instead we just repeat shit.

And no, you're definitely right. Movie is not hard.

You and I obviously watched different movies and I don't give enough of a fuck to keep arguing about it in the Black Panther thread.
