This past weekend brought in $66 million. It's now over $500 million worldwide, 9th on biggest box office all time list. And word is that Disney plans to make a full Oscar campaign for next year's awards.

Oscar for what? Black Panther, seriously? Yea the movie was decent, the action was meh and the final fight was a pissbreak, so far NOTHING the MCU has done would be close to Oscar worthy you cant compare superhero Pew Pew to real movies, sure its the mainstream right now but i rather take the pretentious typical oscar stuff over giving awards to gloryfied kids movies.

Awards shows are pointless and rigged anyway. The entries that "should" win hardly ever do (though judging art, which is entirely subjective, is laughable to begin with) and you don't know what's going on behind the scenes influence-wise. I don't care if Black Panther walks away with a million awards or none, they are basically meaningless. Money is all that matters and Disney's already raking that shit in like it grows on trees.

It depends on what you think should win means. Like if you take the categories at face value then yes others should win. If you go in with the understanding that these awards aren't for the general populace or even critics and definitely not for the movies but are for Hollywood and they just don't put that in the titles then it more or less works.

I highly doubt Black Panther will be in for Best Picture or any of the actors will be nominated for their roles (MAYBE Michael B. Jordan).

However in the areas of costume design, sound mixing/editing, cinematography, music, production design, visual design ... you get it. I still think Doctor Strange not even being nominated for Special Effects was a travesty.
