If this is wrong:

Save it anywhere, and extract it somewhere.

Cut all its content and paste (and replace all conflicts) it in your games directory:
typically, C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI

or x86 if you're on 64-bit OS

You don't have to do anything special if you were already at 30% and cancelled.

Did you overwrite the old rom folders with the ones in the patch? Even after you unzip the patch, it will still have to download a few files, are you sure this isnt what's happening?

It should. But even if it doesnt, it shouldnt hurt anything.

I have 2.5k files and 5 hours remaining, so no I don't think so.

EDIT: I also had xiview installed before if that's what messed it up.

Only had to download 60 files, maybe because I started updating before I used this.

Try this:
Goto your "Final Fantasy XI" folder
Delete the following files: file.txt, FTABLE.DAT, VTABLE.DAT, and the various patch* files and try to repair/update your FFXI.

EU/NA POL? I can't reproduce the problem. I'm Teamviewer patching LS members to try and get the issue going, no luck.

NA POL, was screensharing over skype with other people that have successfully ran the same patch in the same exact way as me, no idea what it could be.

well the file repair worked for me by virtue of just downloading every file anyway..... at least only took an hour.
