Matsui hinted that it's # of items harvested not # of times you use a gathering point. Therefore, fertilizers, serums and NPC services that increase yield will help you upgrade faster. Also note that even though Revival Roots have a 1hour harvest time, they typically yield one item whereas things that take longer to grow such as a Great Root usually give 4-8 items.

Revival Roots give 3-4 items per harvest (including another revival root every time) if you have the mithra helping you harvest more items.

I never tried with both NPCs helping with the grove.

I've used two smelting serums along the way on my mineral vein and put Yeestog on the vein while the other two work the furrow, and it's been Rank 5 for about a week while the Rank 5 KIs for the rest of the nodes haven't shown up yet. Feel free to take my one anecdotal data point with however many grains of salt you like but ranking up is definitely based on number of items harvested, not number of times.

I just want to comment on how the rankup that allows you to mine Orichalcum ores seems to remove platinum ores. GOOD TROLL SE, GOOD TROLL

Oddly enough despite the huge influx darksteel and O ingots still sell quite nicely. I mean it's not 100k each anymore but I certainly didn't expect to still see them high to make me actually want to make them instead of npcing

Edit: Also speaking of odd trolls I could swear I used to get regular gold ore and I haven't since I hit rank 5. But now I get silver when I didn't before <.<

Is there a way to purposedly farm Crystals instead of getting them randomly? Or at least increase their ratio?

They're actually reducing their ratio next patch; it's too high. If you grow a seed and fertilize it with a crystal, there's a moderate chance you'll harvest a cluster of that element(or fail and get a faded crystal).

I haven't gotten gold ore in a long time, but that's cause I only use vein 3 anymore. I'm pretty sure vein 2 can still produce them even at rank 5 but I haven't bothered to test, same with platinum I'd think. I have gotten a few gold ore in vein 3 rank 5 but it's really rare.

Not true, though I get the feeling that you've gotta work on older veins to pull it off.

I tend to just spam #3 for vendorable stuff at the moment, and obviously different veins (indeed, different points named the same) yield different resources. #3 upper has different results than #3 lower, ditto #2 and the original vein.

As long as La Theine worm PTs are active, platinum's never going to be hard to snag anyway. Vendor whatever you get off Mog Garden, buy ore off AH as desired.

And yes, it's definitely # of items collected that upgrades a resource. Fastest way to getting them up to max is getting assistants ASAP and having them set to increase yields.

Watch where the arrow points when you mine a vein. You'll notice that it shifts to a different location (high or low) on the rock from time to time, though it won't target both at once. Depending on where it points, it's a different pool of potential items.

Exactly. Instead of being tree/weeds, it's just two locations on the same piece of rock.

Presumably there are 3 parts of the Vein but from my observations:

One portion of the rock yields Smithing materials(Adaman Ore/Darksteel Ore)
One potion of the vein yields precious metals(Gold Ore/Platinum Ore/Aht Urghan Brass Ore/Orichalcum Ore)
One portion of the rock yields Bonecraft materials(Antlion Jaw, Dragon Bone)

This would be similar to how the Grove has a 'tree' section which yields tree nuts(Walnuts/Felicifruit) and Logs(Petrified Log/Ebony Log) and a 'weeds' section which yields herbs, seeds and grass(Moko Grass/Vegetable Seeds/Rose)

You know, from my Taru-sized angle that might not have been as obvious to me- I thought it was two points, not 3.

Wonder if you can zone in/out to get the points to change? It'd make it easier to target what you'd like for crafting if so.

It would seem that there is a top, bottom left and middle, but I could be wrong.

So just tried the vein 2 and yep can still get plat and gold ore on it. Though not that frequent like 1-2 between the 3 characters I checked with.
