What's the purpose of the monster so far? Why should we unlock it?
So far I see it as something more detrimental than positive (i.e. if you forget to take care for it for too long he might go on a rampage and make you unable to use the other mining/harvesting/etc points of your Mog Garden)

You can get stuff from it each day. Not really sure it can do something bad plus you can set it to auto-raise in such a way that it shouldn't get mad though it wont grow either. And even if you did unlock it and bad stuff could happen you can always just kill it for stuff lol....

Anyways you should unlock it for awesome and somewhat dark quest

Meh, guess I'll give it a try but I wanna get rank7 everywhere first.
    I'm still rank 6.
Gonna take a while to get 7, especially for the Furrows.

Anybody have any insight on what foods resonate with the treant? Cabbage and apples seem to work for sheep and rabbit, but as of yet I haven't found anything that works for the treant.

Piles of dung? Can you trade it mulch or anything, or strictly food items?

I tried trading it various seeds, fertilizers (incl. grow m good and coalition humus), elemental ores, wouldn't take any of them. First thing I tried that worked was moko grass which it didn't seem to care for.

They list the foods you can use on the Mog Garden page. I don't think I can link because I'm still under 10 posts, but it's in the update notes under Monster Rearing.

Blue Peas / Millioncorn / Ronfaure Chestnut / Moko Grass / Boyahda Moss* / Ahriman Tears / Fiend Blood / Beastman Blood / Great Boyahda Moss / Red Moko Grass / Pine Nuts / Deluxe Carrot / Potion / Holy Water / Mulsum / Hare Meat / Bastore Sardine / Faerie Apple / La Theine Cabbage / Batagreens / San d'Orian Carrot / Yagudo Cherry / Acorn / Sunflower Seeds / Distilled Water / Moon Carrot / Napa* / Vomp Carrot / Zegham Carrot

If I had to guess, I would think anything liquid would be for the Treant. Ahriman Tears, Fiend/Beastman Blood, Potion, Holy Water, Mulsum (pretty sure it's a liquid?), and Distilled Water.

Distilled water and ahriman tears are surprisingly not worthless for the treant. I'm gonna try holy water tomorrow.

Well, i've been feeding my sheep cabbage; I'll try corn tomorrow. (Remember the Only The Best quest? Exactly.)

Completed the initial quest line and found it funny.
Didn't mess too much with the system (chose Treant) but how often can you perform actions on your pet? It's not once per game-day because after petting it I tried again on the next day after zoning and I still couldn't perform any action on it (other than checking the current status).

Some things on this system are really cute, but overall it seems very boring and useless >.> Maybe it's just me though.

Gives me something to do with what i get from the furrow. The whole garden is sort of a self-contained (albeit slow) gil factory if you want it to be. I like to take the mining materials to the scouts coalition for free bayld for my Idris though.

It's just something cute. Anyway, corn was "surprisingly not worthless" to my sheep. I'll stick to cabbage then. ^^ Cabbage gets a positive response from the sheep; not surprising since well. When you do Only the Best, that's I think the most popular behind corn.

Holy water 'surprisingly not worthless' to treant.

Unfortunately I do not have a Treant to test with (only have 2 gardens, sheep and rabbit), but if the liquids are not getting good results, the only thing I can think of are the Pine Nuts, Acorns, and Sunflower Seeds. I mean I really don't know what a Treant could eat, I just figured, like a plant, they would like water.

Overnight the crabs came and killed my sheep.

I had been feeding it, and it was happy. But when I logged in this AM the Moogle told me the crabs came and the sheep sacrificed it's life to save the baby rat thing. Now the moogle wants a spool of cotton thread. What the hell?

Preachy elven stopped in to be preachy again also.

Its part of the tutorial quest to teach you about killing your monster.
