I remember SE doing something about Mobs going dark side recently, but I couldnt find it in any of the update notes from the last 5 updates. i wish I could remember specifics, but I think its what Malithar is talking about.

What Dasva said about the stars. (From what I can tell the only relevance they have is to make it so you don't waste expensive evolution food before 2 full stars.)

The lamb cheer normally is given once you finish the monster rearing initial quest chain (opening up the ability to raise other monsters), so that's why you have that KI. eg: once the baby lamb dies.
I think it's just that you can't benefit from it before that quest.

What they did recently was add a visible effect to monsters that have succumbed to darkness:
Creatures in the Mog Garden that have succumbed to darkness will display a visual effect above their heads when the player enters his Mog Garden.

That isnt the change I am remembering. What you are talking about was in this last update right? What I am talking about happened in a previous update. I will give a better search a bit later. Last night I was bout to pass out so I just skimmed everything looking for it.

Here's the notes I and Trumpy were thinking of from September 14':

A new monster will no longer succumb to darkness for the first two days (Earth time) after starting to rear it.

You are correct in that that was from this update just a few days ago. Only thing I could see in the notes about garden last update was "The issue with Mog Gardens wherein examining the flotsam would occasionally fail to yield any items."
One before that just added cheers.
Before that "The issue with Mog Gardens wherein certain sound effects for monsters being raised were incorrect.
•The issue wherein the Mog Gardens NPC Skipper Moogle would display incorrect dialogue."
    Before that multiple prunings

What Malithar just quoted is what I was thinking. I was basically trying to back him up since I remembered reading something along the lines of what he said previously.

God that was forever ago. Basically at the beginning of Monster rearing. (Also August 2014 not September 2014.)
Totes forgot about that since all the stuff that's been added since.

I think for Ram it has to be at maximum growth.

It's not "two stars and it can evolve" since I've had several babys evolve on the 3rd or 4th day that I've had them, and they definitely weren't more than one star.

The immature crab memento lets you buy fish broth.

Well yeah, they had to lessen evolution condition for rams because I've had a few adult sheep for consistently fed/loved for weeks until I was able to even get a ram... but once they changed it I was able to get squirm messages as early as two stars. I've "camped" Ancient Goobbue for over a month on my server and believe me, it wasn't fun. There are lot of accounts of people evolving pets like white rabbits in as early as 3-4 days, but it seems that some pets mature faster than others... I recently started raising a sea monk and it's already at 2 full stars (like only 2 days I think, possibly 3 but no more than that). Could be what you feed them and interaction choice also, idk.

    You sure about that?
Some monsters grow rather quickly when fed what it likes. Specifically, food that strongly resonates like the evolution food can jump growth higher/faster than normal.
So you should check carefully if you're like me and feeding it only the evolution food.
Cause I've yet to see any monster pop below 2 full stars.
And I've been paying close attention to that since they added it because aside from "now I am big enough to evolve" I can't discern any other value to the stars.

My guess is it's not a hard and fast evolve or not but the stars are more like a general indicator of likelihood

day 3 came in and I don't think I got the baby rabbit KI.

I believe that it has a chance to evolve after any squirm. As far as the later that day comment it's zoning that does it.
Although this was before they implemented the growth visible from stars, some pets evolve rather fast. Personally, it took me 5 feedings (having it squirm 3 times before it evolved).

jpwiki listed Denizanasi as the item.

Yes. That's my point. When you feed them certain foods, implied to be evolution foods, then their growth is jumped forward.
Will have to verify further, but your example furthers the idea: red moko grass increased the growth further than a normal JPmidnight would.

Furthermore, I do have some minor evidence toward that, feeding a new raptor a cockatrice meat on day 1 without setting it to enjoying the moment (I had forgotten) made it grow to a whole full star on day2.
Now that's just a singular example, but it would be in line for the examples you gave.

Then again, I decided to give my uragnite 3eyed fish only when it's 1 full 1 empty star (today) so as to cut down on fishing time...
And giving it normal fish has made the progression of 1 empty >> 1 full >> 1 full 1 empty.

So yeah it's not 2 star thing. I just checked sheep is 2 star and no squirm message.
