Not so much a direct fail but the things you do to keep yourself entertained between the updates:


Friend was doing Tojil today on SCH. Their group was looking for a WHM. I joined them on WHM, then went ANON and made a bet with him how long it would take them to notice I was actually now SCH. Switched my IDLE gear to all Gendewitha but changed nothing else.

I then slowly went from "stealth mode" into streight up using SCH things:
... some people might have noticed your WHM using Sublimation and Convert
... some people might have noticed your WHM using Perpetuance
... some people might have noticed the sudden AoE Phalanx
... or casting Aurorastorm
... or AoEd single target Barspells
... or the "WHM" using Regen V

We won the first Run and everyone was still in the dark. Second Run commence and going full out:

- AoE Enfire for the Raptor after SAM said "no SC on this!"
- Spamming "Cursna" to mask my lack of Sacrifice after Whirling Inferno
- Thunder 3-5ing Kurma and Tojil
- Embrava before Tojil
- Kaustra Tojil

Still noone seemed to bat an eye. I told in PT chat that I would once love to be such a great SCH like my friend, then we disbanded and everyone went their own way. Sadly no "Luke, I am your father" moment here.

Oooooooh hadn't seen something like this happening for many years, cap was still level 75.
Someone shouting for Ra'kaz, I send a tell and get invited.
Notice they only have 3 members (plus me = 4) and they ask me to bring a 1/1/1 set.
Why a 1 I ask? But I kinda stop wondering about it.
First run I get asked to come BRD and the result is a total failure, wipe against the marolith. They were relying on healer trusts, saying they won a run previously with this setup (turned out it wasn't true )
Setup was a decent warrior with 113 gear and a 115 weapon.
A pre-adoulin Thief
A mage with a couple of 113 Hagondes pieces, perma-equipping, who was only spamming Fire spells and staying in range, refusing to do anything else, to support etc.
Didn't have reraise nor echo drops.
I kinda suggest we use me as healer and support trusts if they really want to rely on trusts.
I swap to SCH/RDM and we go for another run, this time with Koru-Moru and Joachim.
We struggle but manage to kill 2x Dullahans and 1 Yztarg, been a pain though. By then it was 25 mins in already.
They see an Ironclad and I warmly suggest to avoid it, given the setup (magic damage etc).
Someone aggroes it when I wasn't even around.
As I proceed to raise everybody I drop some suggestions for the mage, who was complaining about that being his 6th failure (actually it wasn't, I managed to use the key and get them at least a primary objective done) and that he wanted the KI at all costs.
Didn't say anything particularly serious, and said in a very friendly and polite tone (who knows me also know how I usually tend to keep a very polite approach to other people when I'm not kiddin around playin the fool).
Things about maybe he might consider gearing up his job a bit more before tackling Ra'kaz, making better macros, bringing consumables (echo drops and rr scrolls aren't even expensive...) and shouting for more people, especially if he wants to go with players who still have a low ilevel.
The 113 warrior kinda supports what I said, I thank everybody and salute.

After a few minutes I get this nice tell from someone who, appearently, was being a bit bitter.

They banned me from the official forums again. I don't even remember doing anything remotely bad. I'm not even sure I've posted there in the last week.

Edit: I was suspended for giving them specific instructions on how to fish their fishing glitch in september.... the one that they *just* posted that they finally fucking figured out.

I fucking hate this company and I don't even care if I'm banned from FFXI or the forums. Fuck SE. They are pieces of shit that don't deserve a third party community.

The problem is that SE's code has the potential to divide by zero in the fishing game.

Like, lets say that the duration of time a fish pulls in one direction or the other has the formula:
time = 5 seconds / ( trunc( 50*rand() ) )

rand() returns a value from 0 to 1 and trunc() drops decimals from the number. So it is going to pull in one direction for 5/0 to 5/50 seconds. The problem is that 5/0 isn't defined, so when the program tries to calculate that it throws an error that isn't handled and crashes the game. In this example you would have about a 1/50 chance of crashing the game every time the fish chooses a new direction.

All they need to do to fix this bug is change the formula to:
time = 5 seconds / ( trunc( 49*rand() + 1 ) )
Now the range is from 5/1 to 5/50 seconds and it never crashes.


This has been explicitly reported to them with crash dumps several times and they haven't bothered fixing it. I think I've heard that there are some third party fishing crash fix options.

I think in practice they do 2 strikes there and that was my second strike, so the ban will probably never lift.

This is what I got:

They probably banned you for a couple of reasons.

1. Japanese Pride (how dare some lowly NA player tell us how to program OUR game!?!?!?)
2. This little bit right here, emphasis on the bolded part. "I think I've heard that there are some third party fishing crash fix options."

Simply by saying "Third Party" they banned you based on that.

Their stated reason is intellectual property infringement. Basically, I knew how their game actually worked and they didn't like it.

It is the section of the TOS that had Kaeko questioning whether dissecting magic damage formulas and the enmity system constituted a violation of the TOS.

Basically that line of reasoning they could ban you simply for figuring out how anything in the game works from the things already stated to haste or fast cast or even just simply things like acc and hit rates. Of course that line of reasoning is completely faulty because simply figuring out how a game works isn't "intellectual property infringement" otherwise instead of a temp ban from the a forum you'd be getting some kind of C&D letter

First time I got banned was for saying that 60Hz looked better than 30Hz immediately after someone posted a video of FFXI at 60Hz. It was back in November.
