    Optimal Cape farming!

    Seeing that these new capes aren't zone specific, and it's a random chance to get a cape - let alone the one you want, I'm looking to see if we could compile any sort of findings to make this go faster.

    I personally have been soloing Lair Reives non-stop since patch (At least 80+ by now.) Within my first 2 lair reives, I get a RDM cape in Morijami. I killed two mobs and then just sat on the nest.
    About 10-15 reives later, I got a NIN cape in the same zone - I didn't kill any mobs at all. I just deployed pet and went to make dinner.

    50 or so reives later, I have yet to see another drop. I've tried doing some colonization reives in between to see if more items dropped, or better quality items - but it seems random at best. Especially with the hordes of people doing them, they barely last. (Thus letting the rewards get even slimmer.)

    So my questions are;
    For those who have acquired a lot of capes, which type of Reive have you stuck to?
    Is anyone seeing a better quality of drop from Colonization Reives over Lair Reives?
    Should I just suck it up and continue pouring tears into these bird nests?

    It's extremely random. I've personally done a countless amount of reives so far, both colonization and lair, and of the 1-2 items I've gotten, none have been a cape yet. Maybe there's some gimmick, who knows, but there's some people who have like 15 capes already with little effort and some who have done nonstop reiving and gotten 0. Might just be bad luck

    Assuming a 20% or so drop rate on capes (my observed drop rate is far lower than this), you'd have a less than 5% chance at getting the cape that you want due to there being 22 different capes. Probably more like a 1~2% chance when considering that the drop rate is likely much lower than 20%.

    I would love some more information.

    I'm trying to do reives on my SMN and I'm thinking I just may be SOL. My damage output, even with the new sash, is very low. In colonization reives I can usually pull enough that it feels like I might have a shot at a cape, but on lair reives I'm lucky if I get in two hits before the thing dies.

    Also I have no idea if Ionis helps but I'm wearing it. I wish SE would let us buy the capes we want...

    Have to slowly kill the lair/adds till you get 3 evals, then you will get loot. Army of peeps ganking it quick = no loot.

    urgh great. i barely get an evaluation on my smn. guess i'll have to wait for CQ tally and get a stronger pet. currently BP for about 1.5k per pop on the lair but no go for evaluations.

    The 2 capes I've gotten after doing 2 days worth of Reives (3-4 reives each hour for total of 12 hours a day) were from getting 2-3 big EXP/Bayld evaluations for fighting /just/ adds, never hitting rocks. All the times I got evaluations for doing just rocks or rocks/adds, yielded Pebbles, Ores, Sand and Skirmish parts. My belief is that cape drop rate is not only extremely low and random, it is also affected by evaluation levels as the EXP/Bayld rewards were lower than the times I did get the cape. (i.e. The quality of reward is directly tied into EXP/Bayld reward quantity)

    just seems any ammount, long as you get 3 evals. gotten like 4 capes on pup mule, 5 on me pld or sam, 0 on sch mule. All score about the same, seems long as you get 3 evals you will get loot. This is for lairs though, maybe need more for colonizations I dunno.

    I don't think 3 evals are the key either. I had a lair reive where I ran in killed 2 birds and it was over. I got geo and smn cape from that one.

    .:Edit:. Sorry forgot to put there was 1 eval in it.

    odd, every time peeps bum rush them I end up getting 0 items on all 3 mules. Once we killed them slow and made sure all got 3 evals, everyone got 1-2 peices of loot. Usualy junk but i've gotten most my capes like this. One guy has gotten like 20 capes.

    Maybe it's how long someone has been figting the lair and you need at least one eval? But prob not, as sometimes alot of pople there so not everyone gets evals cause no mobs to hit. Like if im on pld and nothing to tank i get jack shit for evals and end up getting nothing while the ally gets shit;;

    Fight mobs.. cure people.. bp ward a lot.. this is the most effective way to receive evaluation on SMN provided there are people on the wall.

    I would bet my money that there is no real pattern here and that it is extremely /random across the board for all these capes. Why? to encourage people to continue to do lairs/reives in hopes for their specific cape only to get disappointed, but given our OCD, we'll continue to do it no matter what to get our cape thus contributing to the overall colonization rate ie 'plan'

    Just a thought.

    This is just a huge guess, but... MAYBE you can get a higher chance at better rewards with the KI for specific reives. IE, critical chop for tree root reives, etc.

    That could make sense, given that Pioneers gives it and their assignments deal with Colonization reives (rocks and trees).
    But wtf would the harvesting equivalent be used for?

    My SCH mule has gotten capes with only one evaluation tic before, don't think you need 3 in order to be eligible.

    Doubt that really. Have all of those KIs, including the Cherished ones, and I've gotten 2 capes outta 40+ reives easily.
