It's just flat out random since that's been SE's goto way to prolong content since forever. It's that simple really.

Interestingly enough the reward system is kinda messed up. Like everytime I bring my mules in they just stand there and get 700 for the final evaluation but my main doing something can often get less then my mules for the final... so I really hope the eval amount doesn't matter for getting capes lol

(Post patch today.) I seem to be getting 250LP/Bayld more often on final evaluations.
The number of items still seems random, (1-3 for soloing a lair reive - more often than not 1.)
And I got another cape today for soloing a lair reive AFK while talking to a friend. Took 6 minutes and still got 250LP/Bayld at the end, with 3 items dropping (Pebble, Torso, Cape). (I think a RDM and MNK joined in somewhere.)

Ran to the next reive, did the same thing - but too many people showed up. Ended in 2 minutes while I did the same thing as normal with my Automaton. 250LP/Bayld, but no rewards. (There weren't even any Evaluations during those 2 minutes.)

From pure memory, I don't seem to get anything from any reives that last under 3 minutes - so maybe the 3 evaluations thing has some merit. Or at least 3 minutes is just a good baseline for someone to do any decent sort of contribution. Unless your damage is through the roof.

Okay I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but I have no idea what.

I was rolling around on SMN following a big group. We would hit three Lair spots as they pop and two Col spots. The Col spots I know I was getting at least three evaluations, but have not gotten any capes. I use pred claws on anything targetable and AOE heal or haste or blink every 45 seconds. I usually end up with 750/750 at the end. Lots of times I get pebbles... On Lair, I can usually get off at least two claws and two AOEs before everyone kills the nest, but I don't get over 250/250. I haven't seen hide nor hair of a cape. I had Ionis for half the time, but didn't replace it when it wore.

Does anyone have any tips/suggestions? I only have SMN and SCH and I don't think SCH is going to do much better. I have the 113 ammo item on SMN so I'm doing anywhere from 1 to 2k on things. Any help would be appreciated because having not seen anything is getting to me.

Don't let gambler's fallacy get you down.

That's not a sarcastic response, either.

Should be using the merit bloodpacts, with proper gear @5/5 and a bit of TP they can do ~5000 or more. Also abuse astral flow to hit multiple rocks/enemies, at some point I hit like 8 things for ~4700 each and the rocks for ~2600 with Judgment Bolt, which obviously helps with evaluation. Can be used constantly since you get Ability recast a lot. Use convert/elemental siphon after your MP is wiped to astral flow pact again while it's still on

I don't have 5/5 on any of them because I like having access to all of them. For example, Ifrit's at 1/5 is great for farming umbril oils.

I'll try the astral flow trick. I was subbing /whm for RR because no one ever raises.

If there are a lot of ppl reiving, you need to deal a large amount of damage within a short time as a DD. I use MNK and ignore the minions, just hundred fisting the rock and I usually get 1 reward from the colonization reive in Marjami. If I get lucky with ability reset x2, I can always get 2 to 3 reward. More reward slot, more chance of getting a cape!

Another conspiracy theory of mine, I noticed that the first 1 or 2 that I do usually end up dropping cape if I get a good eval, then none of the next ones drop a cape.

I disconnected once, I relogged on at the end of the evaluation, and I ended up with a cape. I've stayed in the same zone for 3 hours and haven't gotten a cape after hour 1.

Has anyone gotten a cape after staying in the same zone for more then an hour? (IE, farming the same rocks over and over?) Perhaps you need to zone to get more capes?

I've definitely gotten a cape at least 2 or so hours in (After recieving a cape off the second reive.)

But well, I've also gotten 3 or 4 of my capes within the first few reives when zoning in. I know I got PLD after patch the other day, and got SCH after zoning back in today after Hurkan.

Don't really see the merit in having just 1 on most of them but you can still have 5/5 in 1 and have them all... . Wouldn't flaming crush still good on umbrils? They also just as weak to light and earth

When Reives were low manned with poor DDs, I'd get 2-4k Bayld per Reive and usually a cape(40-50% drop rate; 5 capes). When I went with a huge group with a bunch of JPs and ppl with Oatixur/Senbaaks/Upukirexs, I only got 500-700 Bayld per Reive and not a single cape(Reive ended after like 45 seconds). The only reward I got from the fast Reives were pebbles. I think Reward elegibility/quality highly depends on how many EXP/Bayld evaluations you get. The more bayld/exp the higher the tier or % of a better quality reward.

Take a similar approach on War when there's a ton of people. Run up to rocks as /Sam, and spam MS FC as much as I can, without a care of what mobs its hitting. Typically works well enough to get 1-2 items, even when the Reive is ending before MS wears off lol.

Capes are most definitely not a 50% drop rate, on any planet. You're just insanely lucky

not sure if it's already been mentioned but has anyone received the same cape twice (w/o dropping the first one)? Would hanging on to unnecessary capes raise my chances of getting wanted capes?

If it's anything like the other versions of reives drops, no, that wouldn't help. You are probably occasionally dicerolling a cape you already have, and getting nothing as a result though

    Does Ionis help at all?

I brought my mule whm today for about 2 hours. My mules gets 3 caps and all I did on it was toss out a few cures. I was on mnk and got nothing. No Ionis either. I'd say it's all completely random. But after my mule tosses a few cures out and gets 3 capes, makes me want to just change to whm and do the same. lol

Is there any evidence to suggest (or suggest against) specific cape drops may be zone specific?
