Drago was paper thin, but he was supposed to be kind of a force rather than a true villain. The trapper was blatantly the redeemable-villain guy-- he was working for Drago out of fear, and everything he did was based on that. When something other than fear hit, it was a simplistic world-view change, but not that much more unrealistic than what happened in the first movie. It's amazing what self-sacrifice can accomplish in movies. I was fine with the lack of carnage: it kept gore-shock out, which is good... and it was pretty freaking obvious what happened to the first alpha. My 6 year old cried over it, "HE STABBED HIM WITH HIS HORNS!" I honestly don't get how a lack of gore took anything away from Stoek's scene, either. I mean, really. Is that the kind of thing you NEED to enjoy a show? What does it really add? And the mom... she refused to believe Stoek could change, but really... she was afraid to go back. I mean, she was afraid enough of Hiccup. She was kind of terrified of Stoek. When he forgave her, and more than that, hell yeah she's gonna go back-- especially since Berk is freaking Dragon Paradise now. Why WOULDN'T she? And of course Hiccup forgave Toothless. A moment of rage at his own loss, but he knows damned well that Toothless had no choice: Toothless was trying to kill *HIM*, not Stoek, and Hiccup knew that Toothless would never do that of his own volition. I honestly have no idea how anything you're complaining about is something a legitimate person can complain about. I... I'm getting wooshed, right? Honestly, the only thing I really felt was lacking was an actual explanation for how Drago got that Alpha to be his slave. I mean, the hell? That thing ain't gonna be afraid of a spear and a loud voice. Other than that? It was fantastic.
