If you never got around to watching Martian Successor Nadesico and Bubblegum Crisis 2040, you really should. That was the best era of ADV releases.

Last Exile (first season), Record of Lodoss Wars (OAV only), and Scrapped Princess are all excellent, older series. If you want to branch out some, from the action onry field, here's a few other selections:

Seikai Series - Excellent space opera, who's source material won a Seiun Aware for best Japanese Sci-Fi publication.
Higurashi no Naka Koro Ni - Horror/suspense/mystery anime that's quite well done and very unique.
Spice and Wolf - Character interaction driven show but you might get bogged down by how slow it can be. I actually liked the medieval economics/solutions they worked in.
Shin Mazinger Shōgeki! Z-Hen - Retro style animation in the Giant Robot vein of old; has a great ending that you won't see coming.
Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt - If you can take some epic toilet humor, this is a very stylish show, with great music.
Nanoha the Movie First/Second - Cross magic girls, with Gundams, and you've got the feel for this show. If you like the movies, you'll probably like the two series they are based off of, though the first half of the first season is really really slow.

FLCL: I don't know why no one mentioned this yet since it involves hitting meteorite/giant robots with a guitar and is another Gainax show. 6 episodes.

Motherfucking Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: 26 episodes.


Hellsing Ultimate: Make sure you get the ultimate version. 10 episodes.


Code Geass: You should like this if you loved Death Note. 50 episodes.


Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt: I wouldn't consider this epic except maybe for episode 6 and 13. 13 episodes.

I don't know. I haven't touched the show, so I had no clue who was who or what was happening at all. And thusly I've already forgotten everything that happened.

Oh yeah and +1 that. These still happen because the other admins stop me from banning people making new stickies or starting impossibly long threads. Those make it impossible to search for anything in particular or have any kind of linear conversation on a specific subject.
