Random BSOD regarding what looks like my nvidia card.

    Hey guys,

I normally don't post in tech but I'm about at my wits end with figuring out what the hell is going on here. Randomly my OS will freeze for a moment or when trying to bring my monitor back from sleep I'll get a reboot from a BSOD.

I went ahead and pulled the dump file and it reads something similiar to this:

    DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID: GRAPHICS_DRIVER_TDR_FAULT

    CUSTOMER_CRASH_COUNT: 1

    BUGCHECK_STR: 0x116

    CURRENT_IRQL: 0

References nvlddmkm every time as well.
    ------------------------------

GTS450 atm until I upgrade and I've completely wiped every bit of nvidia driver off then reinstalled a few times now. Originally I was getting a lock up from Aero, found an offending update and removed it but we're back to this again with or without Aero enabled.

It's far from consistent really, only happening every now and then but it's one hell of an annoyance.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Have you tried different driver versions when reinstalling? Maybe a beta or something older that's worked in the past?

I read up on various drivers, ran 320.49 (most recent non-beta release for this card) and saw there was a consistently stable option which I believe was 314 from a few months back. No dice either way and running into the same issues.

I completely rebuilt a friends computer in a similar situation because most of the parts had Nvidia drivers and it kept BSODing. It turned out to be a bad HDMI cable.

I had a very similar issue with my gtx460. It would freeze at a random time after being awoken from sleep mode. Also sometimes the screen would just go black. I fixed this for me by reverting my drivers back to the ones from March. I can't check the version number right now, but I can check when I get home if you want. Since reverting,I have had no issues for the pay month or so. Hope this helps.
