I'm pretty sure Sagat beats Yang too. Him picking Balrog is just in case ChrisG picks Sakura after losing with Yang, since he beats Sakura too.

Chris admitted to picking Yang just to be a jackass because him and Sanford had already agreed to pot split. Why are people seriously arguing about it from a matchup PoV? He was intentionally going in direct violation of a rule he's partially responsible for being spread, just to see what would happen.
And your point? He already did this earlier in the tournament in injustice. he played against GRR in injustice, and picked a random character, lost the first round then switched to black adam. He was in winners, sanford in losers... The same exact thing could have happened here, he had 6 matches to get it together. I guarantee if sanford didn't pick balrog this would have played out differently.
Also, I don't remember him saying that at all about the pot splitting thing. Do you have a link?
They should take majors seriously, but a weekly should be for fun and leveling up mains/new mains.
Given the stuff that ties Spooky to enforcing it, they shouldn't have done it for Spooky's sake, but these rules extending to weeklies is ridiculously stupid. I was actually interested to watch the Balrog/Yang match.
Octo posted a comment from a Next Level employee earlier.
So you don't have to look, and bolded the important part
Also,Honest Facts. Real Talk.
they tried to pull one to see if we would enforce the rule.
Long and short is I asked chris would he have picked yang if they werent splitting. he said no. end of story that triggers the exact fucking rule.
Sanford counterpicking chris is a valid counterpick...except NO ONE could vouch for sanford playing rog. People have seen and fought chris's pocket yang. the counterpick is what made shit really weird and it was just like fuck you guys. so action was taken.
Pot splits are nothing new. its when people make it obvious that they are splitting by playing a throwaway/super gimmicky match in grand finals is when people will take issue with the problem if it happens because teammmates meet in the 3rd round or something I doubt anyone will bat an eye but in grand finals? thats a giant fuck you to everyone watching, entering, and running the event.
Grow up. Play your shit...

Also Leroy, did you watch that Injustice match? He played Green Arrow (not exactly a random pick), lost the match, then switched to the counterpick for Bane. That's fucking fighting game 101
Green Arrow is his #1 anyway, right?
Yeah idk why they think GF is the optimal place to play a different character for the first time in a bracket lol
No, he played soloman grundy, iirc.
Edit: yup 3:07:30~

I have never seen chris play solomon grundy before. But I don't watch a lot of injustice.
In defense of the GF thing: Chris could honestly probably beat the majority of people there on fundamentals alone. How are you going to test how good your yang is against real competition? I didn't watch the AE tourny, I went to sleep, did he send sanford to losers? I'm with welt, I was really interested in watching that.
Must have been earlier before I turned on the stream, because he played him in Loser's finals and that's what happened.
And if you go by the tweet I just showed from Mr. Wizard, it doesn't matter if he's trying stuff out early on, the Illuminati just doesn't want people acting like jackasses in final matches of a tournament, which is when people are supposed to be trying their hardest, not sandbagging because they pot split.
Probably because its like 11-12PM in NYC every time they get to grand finals and the last train probably runs between 12-1AM.
(I have no idea if Chris lives walking distance)
This thread is going in circles like the fucking Trayvon Martin thread now. As TBR already pointed out, Next Level and Level|Up weeklies are not just "a weekly." They have legit sponsors and an incredibly large viewership compared to other weekly tournaments. As long as money/sponsors is involved, don't be surprised to watch them be held to the same rules as majors.
And seriously,
Long and short is I asked chris would he have picked yang if they werent splitting. he said no. end of story that triggers the exact fucking rule.
I'm not surprised, but that doesn't mean I cannot think its ridiculously stupid XD
The latter, I explained in my post, the former? lolchrisglogic. Though, me, personally (not trying to argue or make excuses for his logic), but I'd hate to be there for 3 hours playing in 3 tournaments pretty much the entire brackets (he's gonna make top 2/3 in every game at NLBC), and then after that is done and over with, play casuals. I'd want to peace the fuck out (and normally do).
