The thing though is that Sanford has a precedence of playing the entire Character Select screen. The rule is a bit suffocating though because you're basically not allowed to have unknown pocket characters to throw your opponent off even though you may be really damn good with said pocket character.

While I agree that's NOT what the rule is saying, but this can easily be misconstrued as such. Player A has never played this character before (ie justin said he's been practicing a new character, no one knows who), he picks them to counterpick. Player B counterpicks the counterpick with a character no one has seen them play before. Pretty much, I think there is some gray area within the rule.

Seemed to me he legit played yang because he likes playing yang. He stated as such on twitter, and has played money matches (he prob. made more from those than NLBC..) while using yang as recently as Evo. They both could have done it without looking at spooky and laughing though. Make it to GF -> Stress is off -> have fun. Are we going to act like this is the first time chrisg has played his alt char at GF in NLBC? Either for fun or troll. Chrisg has been and will always be a troll.

It's really not that hard of a concept. If you're intentionally under-performing (and don't be fucking dense, this is not talking about trying a new character at a weekly or counterpicking a bad matchup), you're in violation of the rule and you'll be punished.

The only way this rule can be misconstrued is by people being fucking stupid, but we are talking about "pro" gamers, so they'll probably have to paste fucking sticky notes on TVs with pictures drawn on it so the players can understand the rule

I know that, but almost every single time a player has picked a character he's not been known to use, it always raises eyebrows, now even more-so in a more negative light. Case in point, last night.. ChrisG could have honestly picked Yang to throw Sanford off and to save his Sakura for later. Before all this collusion shit, I wouldn't have batted an eye since ChrisG has used Yang before he went to town with Sakura.

As you can see in the thread from when that match was going on, I absolutely did. I said it smelled like pot splitting. I'd say based on Champ's reaction after the fact, he wasn't in on it and Chris was playing legit, but Chris hasn't exactly earned any leeway in this matter based on his actions even before VxG.

So, like you just said, you thought it was a pot split. The game would have ended right then and there despite players playing their best and even though he was using an alt team, he still won. Do you not agree that there is some gray area in this rule?
