The filtering system praised by British Prime Minister David Cameron is controlled by Huawei, a controversial Chinese company with alleged ties to that nation's government, BBC reports.
lol.......... Can we move on now? This is just, what?

Can't move on, this shit is just too funny and stupid. This week prime minister David Cameron announced further details of his crusade to have adult material censored in the UK. It’s a controversial topic for a number of reasons, with even those unconcerned about losing access to porn wondering what will be censored next. Apparently the government have already thought that through. According to ISPs speaking with the Open Rights Group, the filter will target a range of other content too.
Monday David Cameron told his citizens that by the end of the year broadband subscribers will be required to go through a compulsory system which will decide what they can and cannot see on the Internet.
SOPA/PIPA all over again with the guise of protecting the children from dicks & vag.
But dude, they cant see that sort of thing! Crazy violence is fine though in movies/television (I love seeing people taking their 12yr old to horror movies). Even though neither really matters.
I played tons of violent games and looked a lots of porn and i've only been to prison 31 times!!

If you can't read the photo, here are some of the other types of content that are filtered:
- Dating sites
- Drugs, alcohol and tobacco
- File sharing sites
- Gambling
- Suicide and self-harm
- Weapons and violence
This is the slippery slope. Block a crowd-pleaser like pornography and you can set up shop in the public's internet service, ready to toss filters on anything else deemed "offensive." People aren't fighting for porn. They're fighting against government intrustion. If they're not doing anything illegal, the government should be willing to let individual responsibility be the watchword, rather than lurking in the background reading over the public's shoulder.![]()
I hope it auto-filters suicide prevention websites and some teen in a home where it's enabled goes full an-hero.
That would be a nice way to put this to bed.
The fuck, how are dating websites a threat to young minds?
They're not, but they're a drag on the economy because you don't have all those guys spending money at bars desperately trying to get their dangle dingled
Yes and I wonder what kind of privacy they have for it as in are there laws to prevent the mailing lists of "opt in" houses from being sold to companies that can spam porn in their snail mail..
Or you go on a job interview and your interviewer says, "So I see here that you chose to have porn in your house is that correct?"
So Cameron better make some kinda safeguard on the privacy of ppl who choose to. I am still kinda surprised this would even pass in the uk but hmm.

Porn filters employed by the UK's biggest ISPs are failing to block all smut -- but they're much more effective at preventing access to sex education, according to a new study.

More shit on the fiasco of the filters in use.
Among the blocked sites are BitTorrent.com, who work with Madonna and other artists on a regular basis to release free-to-download content. The same is true for other BitTorrent clients including uTorrent, Transmission and Vuze. Tribler, which is developed at Delft University of Technology with EU taxpayer money, is filtered as well.
Websites which offer perfectly legitimate content via P2P downloads are also filtered by Sky’s default settings. This includes VODO, the distribution platform for indie filmmakers, the download page of the Linux-based Fedora, as well as the download portal Linuxtracker.
In addition, several websites that merely write news about file-sharing issues are blocked by the filter too, including TorrentFreak.
Fiasco? Independent filmakers being blocked to protect Hollywood, Fedora blocked to protect Microsoft*? Sounds like working as intended.
*I know no one in the Linux community is going to buy Windows. Lobbyists don't.

Gotta love when the people behind the technology know less then the children using it.Filters put in place by parents to stop children viewing inappropriate content are easily bypassed by the youngsters themselves, according to a nreport from regulator Ofcom.
It found that 18% of 12-15-year-olds know how to disable internet filters.
Almost half of children aged 12-15 know how to delete their browsing history and 29% can amend settings to mask their browser activity.
