Stop saying it's capitalism, capitalism implies that everyone gets their fair shot. It's closer to Monopoly than anything, they own everything, they even own the regulators. In reality they stand to make more than 5 billion because they also do commodity/future trading. They know when the prices are going to go up because they control the price. They basically are doing insider trading and getting away with it.

Evoking capitalism just strikes me as a nice way of saying the modern equivalent high-seas piracy these days. Might not be so much raping of women, but you get the big guns plundering and making the rules because you can't really stop 'em. Buyouts, takeovers, lawsuits.. pick your poison. Sometimes actual killing may even be involved~

In a perfect world, yeah, everyone could have a fair shake and Joe Blow with a good idea and last dollar could become a millionaire. That's getting harder to do and you even get employers claiming rights to ideas you have while working for them even if it might not directly benefit their business. People would rather fire long-time employees instead of promote or raise pay since it's cheaper to just drag in fresh meat. Heck, maybe we should drag hey in to tell us how much minimum wage hurts the economy and that abolishing it would magically create more jobs.

It's been about 2 decades since my family tried to open their own place. It worked for a while, but then an unrelated chain store muscled in on our turf and could afford to do things more cheaply because they had more shelf space and revenue from their primary stuff. Unsurprisingly, when we folded, they jacked prices and ultimately let things rot because people just went to the next town over instead. Realistically, I doubt we'd be open today even if that didn't happen, but it could've been enough to let my mom retire by now instead of slaving away in a call center. Probably not the best way to learn about economics as a teenager, but it did a good job in jading me toward the wealthy.

While this subject is terrible it is not surprising. I can't use my energy to be mad regarding it because in the end it's not doing myself any good and I'm not in a position to try and change anything regarding the subject. I do hope someone could do something about it though.

I agree and it is a shame. This subject reminds me of something I'd see on a msnbc special or American Greed series where the companies/people get caught but everyone that gets screwed out of money never gets repaid.

It's such a seemingly impossible system* to overtake or correct, I don't see how one can't lean toward similar complacency. I'd liken it to how George Carlin would say he had just reached a point of observing, often humorously but yet defeatedly indifferent.
