Wasn't there a huge class/job list embedded in the dats of 1.0 FFXIV? They might just go off of that list?
Edit: Found the list--

There was a tiny, tiny, tiny bit mentioned about Shepherd back when Tanaka was at the helm. From what I remember, it was just a planned 4th DoL that focused on gathering from nodes that represented small game and other animals. Ishgardian NPCs mentioned it here and there (as the guild was located in Owl's Nest or something). It was basically 1.0's intended way to gather mob-related materials (skins/hides/antlers/fangs/etc.) without having to pick up a weapon and kill them since they were going for that whole "you can play this game all the way through on ANY class!" thing.
I'm almost certain the class was completely scrapped.
Interesting how Bard was suppose to be one of the eventual classes to be released had 1.0 not bombed.
Technically it doesn't say Bard in the usual Final Fantasy sense; if I had to pick a word to put there it'd probably be musician or something
Edit: it doesn't actually say musician either; all the Japanese words actually just simply say the tool of choice (sword, bow, etc... in this case it says music)
The left-hand column is just the class' weapon type. The center column is the title of the class, and they are all "bard."
All things I would have absolutely loved to try instead of the same jobs for the n-th time.
I've always wanted to be a goat herder...
Some of those are interesting, but shit like that lets you know Tanaka had no idea wtf he was doing.
Isn't that what FF13 was for? Heh heh heh...
But in all seriousness, experimenting with completely new jobs/classes like those above without any throwback to previous Final Fantasies in a Final Fantasy MMO was probably not the wisest choice in the first place. Alienation to the core audience and all that, yadda yadda, etc etc, I'm sure it's been argued to death by now.
They can do all the experimentation they want in console offline games though (people seem to accept it a lot more) which they have/usually do.
Calling the things from 13 classes or jobs is giving them way, wayyyyyy too much credit.
I was just disappointed in 14 because before the game launched because we hadn't seen hide nor hair of the traditional jobs and we had all these new classes that didn't seem to conform to the old FF archetypes (especially CON and THM) and then it all got tossed a few months in so they could sell people on jobs the "the feels" and all that crap.
But yea:
The problem with creating "original" jobs in a FF-MMO is that they all still have to conform to the archetypes: tank, dps, healer. Why go through the trouble of creating a healer class, when it's basically just a WHM? This is especially true in a FF-MMO when people are just going to say, "So CNJ is like WHM?"
The traditional jobs are better. The job system is probably one of the greatest things to come out of Final Fantasy.
The point is to make a healer that isn't "basically just a WHM".
God forbid they come up with a new concept and design and every nostalgia tard's "FF feeeeels" boner goes limp.

I didn't notice these posted unless it was drowned out by the boners over the music.
