Explain to me what you think you're seeing in that tracert.

Also, it's 8.8.4.4 for the secondary google DNS server.

I have no idea. That's why I asked. There seems to be a lot of lag coming from the second and third hops of that tracert and it's pretty consistent every time I do it.

Also, I've run tracert before and all the hops were under 100ms.

tracert hops can vary wildly. Do a ping -t www.google.com and see what your times are and if they're consistent.

What made you look into this. Were you having trouble with a specific site or service?

Across the board. Lagging in every game. Slow buffering on all video sites. Slow loading websites.

It seems somewhat corrected now. I unplugged everything overnight (8 hours) and it's slower then before the problems started but faster then previously.

Hm yeah if you can rule out your hardware then I'd give them a call about that.

Usually these issues just require a power cycle or a call to your ISPs customer service. Of course, all they'll do is ping your modem and tell you everything is fine.

^ Time Warner is a pain in the ass about this sort of thing. When I was up in NY every morning around 1-2am my modem would just drop for 2hrs or so, and since we had the phone tied into it I couldn't call them so I would call them later that day and they would tell me that "nothing is wrong on our end and you look fine to us! Here let me power cycle you" lol. Went on for about 5 months till I threatened to cancel service completely and then suddenly it stopped.

This is VERY close to what's happening to me. I don't totally lose service but it drops to like 56.6k modem speeds.

I'm swapping to FiOS on Wednesday, saves me about 100 bucks.

Man you're lucky. I have FiOS down here in MD, but back up in NY Time Warner was the fucking monopoly. Had no other choice in my town.

Problem has gotten worse again. 200-400ms across the board.

Are you doing this on wireless? How old is the box? Can you configure anything in the box itself? I know the new comcast box I got came pre-loaded with restrictions and bottlenecks that I had to remove to fix a lot of issues I had.

If you are on wireless, hard wire and test again.

Hardwired on the computer, wireless on my iPad mini and Iphone. The box isn't more than 2 years old. It's definitely on their end. It stops and starts totally randomly now.

And is this one of those all in one boxes, IE you don't have another router in between your computer the modem? I know these are dumb questions, but sometimes it's the simplest thing that can cause these issues.

I have my modem which is currently plugged directly into my computer. I have a wireless router that I usually have the modem plugged into, which I plug my computer into with an ethernet cord. I've tried every variation of having them hooked up and it doesn't affect performance. It's definitely on TWC's end.

Do you have neighbors on TWC as well? I'd ask them if they've noticed anything (I doubt they would though if they arnt that savvy). I know where I lived in upstate NY we had bad service outside the main city, but if you went 2 blocks down the road the service was better in a few places.

When your times increase, does it coincide with wet weather?

Actually no, it's been raining on and off here for a day or so and the rain hasn't affected anything.

I asked the doormen in my building if anyone else had complained about TWC recently and they said no more than usual, which doesn't say much. I actually don't know my neighbors on my floor too well, we keep different schedules. I'm hopping swapping to FiOS tomorrow will take care of this mess, I need a good stable connection again for when FFXIV starts up in a few days.

Id get a tech out to your place. You might have too low or too high signal levels and or your reverse could be too high, or you might have BER on your line and might need new fittings and barrels on the wallplates. Might new lines too.
