If things worked out such that I could live someplace within 30 minutes of the loop station (by whatever means), and it takes 30 minutes to reach SF, and say another 30 minutes to get where I want on the other side, if the housing prices on one end and the pay on the other end were right (it'd have to be with the ticket cost), I'd consider that daily commute for a job. Hell, I know people who have MUCH longer daily commutes just between places here in the county, in a car. At least with public transit you can use a laptop or tablet, to make better use of the time. Spend the commute watching TV instead of during primetime.

And eyeballing the distance on google maps for places in the same radius, that basically means if you give them lines, LA, SF, SD, Vegas, Phoenix, and Tuscon suddenly becomes a single region to hunt for work or housing.

This would be pretty fucking huge for Cali imo. There's a lot of towns with fucking cheap as shit housing, but that's 'cause they're stuck behind mountains n' shit so don't have a lot of jobs within commuting distance.

Especially if it had connectors going east.

Actually I tried to ride a similar thing at Kings Dominion about a month ago and it was closed That one has like little rollers all over the track.

I think this would be more effective on the eastern seaboard, where commuting across multiple states and major cities is more common. If they could set something up between DC and Boston, with extra routes going to Baltimore, Philadelphia, and especially NYC, this would be downright revolutionary in terms of commuter traffic and transportation. LA & SF is also important, but I doubt that with a 350 mile trip between the two there are many people going there on more than a semi-regular basis. Washington to Boston is 390 miles as the crow flies, so it's roughly the same distance.

LA to SF (or vegas) has the huge advantage of being a nearly straight shot (few curves allows high speed) as well as very little in between. The northeast has neither luxury.

I'm still sitting here trying to understand just how fast 1200mph is. Is that the real speed they want to make this thing go lol. I can't even fathom the logistics of that. What does going 1200mph feel like jesus christ.

Don't really know if windows (in the capsules and then in the tube) will be part of this thing.

Just remember that the space shuttle travels at a peak of 17,580 mph...

At 1G (the acceleration of earth's gravity, 9.8 m/s2) it takes only 55 seconds of acceleration to hit 1200mph - less than a minute to get up to speed at the same acceleration we feel every second of every day.

Or, in a Tesla Model S Performance you can go 0-60 in 4.2 seconds - so if you drive at that average acceleration over 84 seconds, you'd hit 1200 mph.

vroomtubes sound cool, but I imagine we'll see them in the east before here in North America. I'm not super confident in us revolutionizing much of anything atm, let alone something as gnarly as this for transportation/shipping/etc

I'd rather just use the God Tool and restart LA and build a better infrastructure/form-based code from the start. If what was posted earlier about the insanely long time towards investments/construction is true then there is probably no hope unless you rework the internal system in charge of it (I don't know what it is but I'm guessing government/municipal asshats).
