I'd like to reiterate how awesome the Gem of Ease really is. I leveled one up to 25, threw it into a crafted bow with 2,500 DPS, and started a new Demon Hunter. I was level 70, 24 hours later, with 8 hours of work, 2 hours of driving, and 6 hours of sleep in there also, plus with nothing but solo play. Very handy gem for rolling new characters.
just bought the expac and am lvling a new char after being away for like a year.
can someone give me a basic idea of what i should be trying for? thanks
Basically beat the story mode on one character, including the new Act 5, to unlock adventure mode. Then level up to 70 by doing Act 1 bounties and Halls of Agony level 3. Once you get to 70 put a basic build together and work on getting some decent rares. Basically you want offensive stats on your gloves, amulet, bracers, weapon, and rings. Defensive stats on your body, shoulders, waist, legs, feet. Head you want a mix of both, just make sure you get at least Critical Hit chance.
With a basic build together and hopefully a few riftstone keys from bounties you run some Nephalem Rifts where you run through an area killing hordes of enemies until a meter fills up and a boss spawns. Kill the boss and he'll drop a bunch of loot and potentially a Keystone of Trials. Take the Keystone of Trials and fight more waves of enemies to get a Greater Rift keystone. The level you start at depends on how far you made it in the Trials. Greater rifts work similar to Nephalem Rifts except enemies don't drop loot and there is a time limit. Elite packs drop purple orbs that increase the meter faster to spawn the boss. The boss drops more loot than normal and will always drop a new Legendary Gem of one you don't have yet. Depending on how fast you completed the rift you can either upgrade your Keystone to a higher level or Upgrade your legendary gems 3 times.
While doing both regular or Greater Rifts you will earn bloodshards which you can use to gamble at Kadala for potential Legendary/Set items. You're basic goal from fresh 70 is to get one of the end game sets for your class. Once you get a 6 piece set (or 5 if you get a Ring of Royal Grandeur) you can easily farm Torment 6 and higher tiers of greater rifts to try and get upgrades.
tl;dr
Phase 1: Level to 70 while doing bounties
Phase 2: Craft some good rares and farm bounties in Act 1 for Rift Keys
Phase 3: Run Rifts and Greater Rifts to get Legendary Gems and Set Items
Phase 4: With a full set run more rifts and greater rifts in the hopes of getting "Ancient" quality items and find BiS equips
thanks for the writeup!
i think i have adventure mode unlocked already, maybe cause i was active long ago? or maybe i don't and think i do? either way i guess i'll lvl a char through act 5 anyway just to see story, not that i terribly care. a couple things:
does it matter what lvl i am to start adventure mode?
also are main stats included on the DPS number of a weapon? like is 100 dex factored into the overall number?
thanks
DPS is determined by weapon speed (slower weapons will have higher base weapon damage, like most 2-handers), % damage, +weapon damage, and %attack speed. The last is the most watered down stat since most skills are determined by the weapon damage and attack speed does nothing to up that number. Weapons will roll with the primary stat 95% of the time.
ohhhh yeah ok right, i remember having to use a DPS calculator to compare shit from the old auction house.
thanks
I just got an ancient Meticulous Bolts with 973 dex, attack speed 15%, reduce cooldowns 7%, crit chance +10%, hungering arrow +11%, and +11 dis. What's better to reroll: Hungering arrow to EA or MS, or 11 -> 12 dis?
Use D3Planner. It's a bit tedious to input all your current gear stats but if you save your setup it's a lot easier to see what is a true DPS upgrade later on.
That said look at your total buff % for both Skill + General buffs and Unhallowed Discipline buff. Whichever one is lower will benefit more from the extra 15% damage. General buffs are basically anything that increase your Character Sheet DPS. For example if you have 80% in Skill+Buffs and 600% from Unhallowed, you effectively deal 1.8*7=1260% extra damage. If you increase skill+buffs by 15% for 95% you get 1.95*7=1365% and alternatively you could have 1.8*7.15=1287%.
how's this hellfire thing work? am i reading the guide wrong or do i need at least 4 of each key (16 total) so i can wind up with the 4 specific organs to make the amulet?
Correct. Generally people feel it's not worth doing right now, due to the fact that even on T6, the keys only drop at a 50% rate or so (some claim higher, but I tend to disagree). Blizzard has already said that Hellfire farming will be changing, so maybe best to just wait for now.
thanks. yeah that seems just way too insanely grindy for me, as much as i'd love to try for a super sick 5th passive.
also, topping out at 47-48 grifts unless i can find better gear. is there a more optimal way for item farming atm? kinda getting bored of what seems like an inefficient way of gearing.
The only thing worth doing in diablo is party greater rift spam(35-45+ depending on group) due to the massive exp discrepancy compared to t6(up to 10x easily), this also ends up being the most legendaries/hour in a good group.
So I got D3 a couple days ago and it's been pretty sweet. Rolled a demon hunter and just doin the rift stuffs. Are there any legendaries in particular I should hold onto for other classes or should I just DE all the poopy ones? My stash is gettin full![]()
Just scrap them unless they're sets, and even then not all will be good. There are a few exceptions, particularly if ancient, but I imagine you're being smart-looted into most things DEX and any possible carry-over to monk is likely limited to jewelry. But if there's something more specific you're iffy on, just ask.
I just wasn't sure if there were like god tier weapons or accessories that high end build require. I know barbarian is like crazy good cause of the whirlwind shinanegans things and I dunno what really goes into it. I mean, I know I could look that up, but I wasn't sure if there was a "Dont ever DE <list> because they are too good for the class they are used on" kinda thing.
