    FFXI + Win8 + low end CPU?

Does anyone else have any experience with win8 (inb4 win8 sucks) I have a new laptop i3 @ 1.8Ghz and Intel 4k HD GPU. And FFXI runs terrible and by terrible i mean really terrible. In Adoulin I run about 4-5 FPS at lowest. I remember playing FFXI on my DualCore at 1.66Ghz and even more horrible Intel on-board graphics on XP/Vista don't really remember which OS, but I am certain it ran at way higher FPS than with my current laptop.

So eitherway does Windows 8 really bottleneck this bad at low end CPUs?

Intel 4000 has been known to work fine, and I believe the latest updates on the Intel 4000 actually degraded FFXI to the point of crashing. Updating it in this scenario might only break it.

    A few threads down: http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/114...I-on-Windows-8

The last 3 posts, follow the video if it applies to you, might help.

Otherwise, it's an underlying problem elsewhere in my opinion, I do not think it's a CPU. The guy posting must have something similar, or an i5 at best (otherwise it'd have a dedicated GPU).

I had some similar issues running FFXI on my Celeron (don't judge me!! It was £20!) integrated Intel graphics too, but after a little googling I found an older driver that fixed things up perfectly, running at 1080p in crowded areas gives me noticeable stutter, but that's to be expected given the hardware I'm using.

Seriously, I think it was developed to run on the computer that got the Astronauts to the moon.

You'd be surprised some of the things it'll run, FFXIV borderline playable at 720p, and Left 4 Dead 2 is actually fairly smooth, though that's probably a testament to how scalable the source engine is.

After looking some deeper into the case I believe it's something to do with the CPU, because if I look into the CPU detailed also on CPU-Z from the looks of it my CPU downclocks to 1ghz or even lower.

Run CPU-Z again, then go to the mobile power management of Window 8 (don't have it, can't tell you exactly where) and try to change the profile to "High Performance" or something like that. You should see it clock up.

Also, the modern iX cores nowadays will throttle themselves when not in use automatically, so unless you were pushing your CPU, it'd probably default to a low clock state.

I know in Windows XP, Vista and 7, twiddling it to High Performance or equivalent will force the CPU to clock at is max (not overclock), but not sure about 8.
