Persona 4 Arena is getting a sequel. And it’s adding new playable characters like Yukari Takeba and Junpei Iori from Persona 3.

Developer Arc System Works began a location test for the fighter at two locations today. If you’re in Japan, visit Hey Arcade in Akihabara or Taito Station Nihombashi in Osaka from August 16 to 18 anytime between 10:00 a.m. and midnight to give the new characters a test drive.

Famitsu.com has first images from the play test, and will be publishing impressions at 1 p.m. Japan time (midnight Eastern time).

At this point it's an update to the arcade version only.

ArcSys kinda seems to be flooding their own market at the moment, I'm not sure if they're helping themselves by having more relevant anime games out there or hurting themselves by putting out competing titles that will cannibalize their own products. By middle of next year they'll likely have 4 games of their 3 major IPs all having current versions out at the same time competing against each other.

Given it's been over a year since the game original came out, they'd be better off doing a re-release if they wanted to bring this content back to the consoles.

I was going to ask this, since I am unfamiliar with the fighting genre outside of Melty Blood, Kerfuffle, and now this.

When they launch new arcade machines like this, does it generally mean that a console version is in the works or is it more likely nowadays to be DLC or added content?

And I know it wont happen due to story reasons, but I'd be damned if I didnt want to see Minato and Orpheus/Messiah make some hay now. I like seeing what appears to be outside Tartarus in those sceens too.

Unknown at this point if a console release would be disc or dlc at this point. Given the level of stuff they're changing I would expect it to be an entirely new release.

It absolutely will. People play the newer game, even if it's worse.

Wish they'd added Koromaru instead of Junpei.

Wish they'd have added more than 2 new characters for a new release since honestly... P4A's roster is pretty tiny.
