Yeah, mahi-mahi, silver sharks, and hammerhead sharks are the most profitable fishes, but they're all ass to catch. Mahi-mahi is a level 50 one star fish in a low level area that can only be caught between 10am and 6pm in-game time. Both sharks are needed for the shark oil recipe but each have separate fishing locations. Sometimes they have to be mooched depending on where you're fishing.

Mahi-mahi used to be 8-10K per fish on Sargatanas. Now they're down to 1.5Kg because of all the undercutting.

Bait level absolutely matters. You need to know what you are targeting to mooch with. Higher level baits seem, to me, to catch higher level fish and larger fish. At that level of perception you should have been capped for HQ (which I think is 15% like the other gathering classes), so the variable left is the bait. Just go with a higher level of the appropriate type.

On Lamia, fish prices are absolutely absurd. Prices that were in the thousands a few weeks ago are down to double digit prices now. It's really, really difficult to make any money fishing at this point.

I really wish this game had a FFXI like auction system where you saw the prices of previous sales, not what other people have them up for. The current system makes it inevitable that all prices will be undercut by retards.

Yeah, I was about to post that as well, but I think he meant that the previous sales should be the only thing displayed, hence the association to "FFXI-like auction house system".

Yeah but you can still see what people have theirs up for which ruins the situation. If the last 20 sales were for 1,000 but you can see Fishbot Larry has 10 stacks available in the Wards for 500, you're going to preemptively undercut to 490 or whatever. In XI's AH, you would know that someone had put 10 stacks on the AH, but not the price, so you'd probably list yours for like 920 maybe. Regardless, the next buyer might come up and just bid 900 for all of Larry's stacks even though he could have gotten them for 500 (but again he doesn't know because he can't see the price). Seeing the prices being offered accelerates the price decline significantly.

Basically, people want hidden prices so all the lazy fucks just buy at market price instead of testing lower bids first... allowing undercutters to sell first with slightly less potential to hose the market entirely.

However, I suppose that's why it's a market board, and not an auction house.

Rain isn't too uncommon, but it's not unsurprising to go a few days (RL hours) without any. Are the fish expensive on the markets or something? I'd just buy them.

Principle of the matter. I don't like buying fish to turn in. I know if I do it once, I'll do it a 100 times lol. Plus I wanna eventually "catch 'em all" anyway so might as well do it now.

Speaking of "catching them all" does catching fish in new locations give you more XP or something? Or is the bonus XP only awarded upon catching an entirely new fish?

I originally wanted to go to all the fishing locations to catch all the fish but quickly gave up on that since it was incredibly time-consuming.

Also, how do you tell when you are getting the Fishing Hole bonus? (actually, how can you tell when something is a fishing hole in the first place...)

I think the xp bonus is only for the first time you catch a fish. I only plan to fill out the list of fish for every place, not catch each individual fish in each location haha.

Not too sure about the fishing hole stuff.

There's a fishing hole bonus? Anyways if those are the ones locked by Gulleye you'll get "you sense fish swimming below but are unsure how to go about catching them" or something similar (I think that exact line is only used for dune/skyfishing before you have the traits). On your fishing map they will be the ones with sparkles.

You get a double (+100%) bonus for your first time catching a specific fish, but won't get it again at another location. It's revealed already if you find another location with that fish, once that hole is on your map.

Annoying part about catch'em all before 50 is that you're never sure if that last missing fish is just you sucking, needing a particular trait, or level. Edit: or bait

Even when you're 50, you begin to wonder if your Gathering/Perception just sucks ass.

P.S. Fuck double-mooches that can yield multiple different fish. AKA: not the rare one.

Gathering only cuts down on the time between bites I thought.

Also someone at SE done fucked up Krill Cage Feeder prices from NPCs. 480/per and it's a consumable bait.

I have never bothered to do any of my own testing, but I've heard that and I've heard Gathering helps you catch higher-level (higher-rarity) fish. Perception, I am convinced only affects fish size.

I blasted through the intro shit during Phase 4, but does anyone remember what it specifically tells you in the FSH quests? Or does it just give you the same canned response that's given to BTN/MIN and doesn't exactly apply to FSH.
