I never got "not enough gathering" on nepto after 402 gathering. Not sure why you would get it on 409.

I wish I knew why I was losing so many clams - and other fish besides. I have Ironworks, fully melded forager's and my base gathering is 380something. I often eat enough food to put me over 400. More than enough to pull clams (people were reporting getting them at 350some?) This happens to me all the fucking time now though. I lose about 70% of my catches to not being able to reel in whatever I'm fishing. This never used to happen to me often until a few months ago when I stopped being able to catch pretty much anything. It is so frustrating. I don't know if rng just hates me or what. It's made me come to the conclusion that gear just does not matter after you hit the gathering requirement. It's all luck.

Yea my fishing friend was also completely puzzled by why I got an insufficient gathering message as she had never seen it either. I am 100% positive I was at 409 gathering too, max meld forager, supra, and +10 from FC buff. For the next cast to not give the message that my gathering is too low and it simply got away like any other big fish is odd.

Also, left the above Nepto early to get a pre-mooch Helicoprion, got it on that mooch, which was my first attempt at the fish. Much rage was induced by my fishing friend who had camped it for weeks lol.

I've had zero luck on Legends, very fun to camp besides the one in Urth's. I hate the staring at the fishing rod with all the movement that bait has.

Tried Nepto again, got the insufficient gathering message on my first try, and then it did not occur for any of the others that bit and got away. My only other guess is I'm eating food and then casting out too fast for the game to register the gathering increase from the food, which would then put me under the gathering requirement.

What perception number are you guys using for HQ Clams? I'm at 317 and have gotten a dozen NQs and 0 HQs, so small sample size I just want to make sure I'm in the correct range.

I'm at 314 and I'm 18/30 so far. The bulk of those were caught without forager armor, food, or FC buff, so the minimum has to be quite low. I generally have been catching 1-2 HQ per window, but as of late the bite rate and successful reel in have been awful, but that's probably good luck averaging itself out with the bad.

I have noticed that the better my gear gets, the worse my fishing luck is.

Maybe I should just strip off all my forager stuff and steal back my basic FSH JSE from my retainer. I might catch more HQ clams.

Had a heck of a time getting HQ Cloud Cutters, but eventually I 1/1 an HQ Mahar which led into a 1/1 Shoni on my first time out there. Four legends caught so far in six bites seems insane luck...too good to be true levels.

So you're 1/1 on Endo, 1/1 on Helio, 1/1 on Shoni and 1/3 on Namitaro, but you're complaining about Nepto? Can I still donate money to temp ban this guy?

Endo and Helio are the easier ones.
The rest are AWFUL. Especially Shoni and Kuno, I mean you have to get mad lucky for the stars to align for those. Shoni's combo of HQ on a green + weather you hardly ever see in Coerthas makes it a total bitch. Kuno has that double mooch x2 which wouldnt be that bad but the problem is competing mooches and a generally lower rate of hooking Assassin betta than goldfish after silverfish. Both of these fish are exercises in sadism by SE. Nepto's not even that bad comparatively. He is MUCH easier to catch in my experience.

I shouldn't be complaining about a real challenge in the game but it's just so frustrating when it's all luck based.

Helio weather seemed much much more rare than Shoni. And I always got those fuggin magic carpets. Or it got away. Worst fish ever.

In my experience, the 2 easiest are Endo and Nepto. Like Sigma said, Helio's weather is fucking rare. Rarer than Shoni's imo. Plus, 1/2 of the time, you have Carpet taking you for a ride.

In all seriousness, the RNG is what makes fishing kinda fun. The fishing LS that I'm in is one of my most active LS's and people are always supportive when someone finishes some fishing achievement. You don't ever see someone being happy they got some HQ Darksteel ores or Fragrant Logs, for example lol.

Yeah, have to agree. My fishing LS is full of awesome people, both avid fishers and/or avid crafters. Unlike battle content, fishing and crafting activity allows plenty of time and opportunities to shoot the shit with whoever happens to be in-game. Fun people bullshittin', talking shop, working together, and celebrating each other's accomplishments.

The non-instanced game world is a gorgeous place (visuals and sounds), so I love good excuses to get out there and lose a big fish catch or something. That and the hunt drama is hilarious from the gatherer's outside perspective. I love how common it is for random fishers to troll the hunt herds.

Daniffen's Mark is still an elusive shit to me, so much so that I don't like going out there for him anymore. Yet to see The Salter bite and I am aware of the non-legend bite it has.

I don't think I'd put this legendary fish catch rate on par though with my fishing luck I had in FFXI. I 1/1'd Opal Silk and 1/12 Saber Shoot which were needed for the best fishing rod, Ebisu Fishing Rod. Some people gutted over 1,000 fish trying to get those two items, I think the highest I ever heard was around 1,800!

1/27 Nepto, all done with legends now. Had one bite that got away with seconds left on the buff, spammed my cast trying to squeak one more cast in and wasn't sure if the buff had applied to the cast as it was that close...luckily it did!

I was well within the 1/1 on a lot of them, Nam was the cunt. Took about 15 buffs to finally land it. The feeling is so satisfying.
