I did dunefishing from 35-45. The experience was still really good the whole way. Once I hit 45 it was skyfishing all the way to 50.

I did these at the locations the class quest sent me to. An HQ off a mooch while sky fishing can give you upwards of 60k exp.

Does anyone know where to go for the Singing Shards fishing location in Mor Dhona? The map on Disciplesoftheland has it in an unreachable area and I can't find any water near that area other than the large lake that counts towards The North Shards.

Singing Shards should be generally the southwest corner of that pond. I think I logged it from dead center on the south side, close to Saint Coinach's Find.

It is a "sparkly" Lv.45 fishing hole, so Lv.50 (Gulleye III) is required to log it.

I've seen a few threads here and there, I will provide my list of what I personally did. My focus was on XP, I don't know what's considered useful or valuable fish. I do like the pretty areas too.

1-10 - Just fish wherever you had to go in order to do your quests
11-18 - I went to The Brewer's Beacon, it's the lighthouse SE of Aleport. Close enough to town to do leves turn-ins if you're so inclined. I wouldn't do fishing leves if I had it to do again (but guilty, I'm noob).
19-25 - I think I spent this time around Moroby Bay, kind of a blank time to me where I didn't really find a good spot. Found a recommendation for Halfstone in Western La Noscea, try that.
25-30 - Guardian Tree (Evershade) in Central Shroud, SW of Bentbranch. Thunderstorms are gorgeous here.
30-35 - Costa del Sol. I fished the nighttime fish for the L30 quest just east of town, then moved up north to the dock on the northern beach with the dancing mithras, that seems a bit higher.
35-40 - Dunefishing. Get Sand Leeches from the NPC in Forgotten Springs, then ride down to Byregot's Strike. Due east of that (the little hook in the map) is where to fish. Awesome, plus you'll catch some legendaries.
40-?? - The Burning Wall, Eastern Thanalan. There's aggros in here so you'll need to stealth through the cave a bit. You can fish from the top level though, just try to get to a place over the water. Fantastic XP. Avg 3100/ NQ catch with some HQs as well, so if you are getting less elsewhere think about moving.

Only 41 now, but will be at Burning Wall until my gear breaks and then might come back.

Always get the latest bait you can equip. I like live baits because the hit rate is so much faster, so I don't know much about lures. Fishing is so much faster than mining that it blows my mind. I think that's why I'm so addicted to it.

I found at around lv28(?)-35, Moondrip near vesper bay is perfect. Fishing pretty much nothing but Grip Killifish. Need stealth though as its full of Gigas

Will concur with that then, Grip Killfish was my first turn-in for Twin Adders. It's nice when things have a purpose.

To finish, 40-45 at Burning Wall was fantastic. There's a couple spots to fish which are just right inside the zone so you don't really have to stealth too far in.
45-50 does look like skyfishing right behind Whitebrim all the way, i'm 46 now and the xp is fantastic.

Hi, I'm a 50 Armorer at the moment new to gathering classes and just recently took up mining to aid in leveling up Goldsmith or Blacksmithing to 50. About how much gil does fishing pull in at the higher levels? After you get to a certain level will it sort of keep itself afloat like other classes' selling their crafted gear but by selling fish instead? I think there's a smaller amount of fishers out there compared to the other two gathering classes, so I think the market would be easier to manipulate. Is this assumption correct?

There's really not much money in Fishing at all. Originally, Tiny Tortoise and Gigantpole minions were the best money, but once their locations got out, the market went to shit from flooded supply and severe undercutting. Jumping on any new, fished-up minions in the future is probably the best profit to be had out of the class.

Other than that, there might eventually be some money in catching Mahi-Mahi (which is used in the best Control+ food). Even less money in Navigator's Daggers & Cloud Cutters (which are used in the 2nd best Control+ food).

Red Coral is also (to my knowledge) not available from anywhere but Fishing and used for current best CP+ earrings (barring the GC supply achievement ones which will take forever). So that's something.

Ah yeah, I forgot about Red Coral. Yeah, it's only fished up as far as I know. At least that's the only way to get HQs, which is what people want.

I managed to make a decent amount from Silver Sharks, too bad theyre a fairly rare catch. Sold for 9k each on Rag though when I was fishing

How do you catch a Wandering Sculpin at Snowcloak in Coerthas? I have tried tons of baits and caught hundreds of every other type of fish (only 3 others in total the one I cant catch is the 4th of 4). None of them are moochable and I have ran out of ideas of how to real in this last fish to finish my fishing log.

This guide seems pretty outdated now, and everytime I try to do a leve, find a cooking/alchemy fish, or anything like that, I simply can't figure out where I'm supposed to go and what bait to use. I eventually find it, but knowing beforehand would be nice.

Checking http://xivdb.com gets me the info about 50% of the time, the more people sign up and put in comments the better it'll be.

as far as which bait to use, that will take a bit more time. some fish *require* specific baits, like mahi-mahi needs yumizuno. most fish you can figure out quickly.
freshwater baits and lures, ocean baits and lures, skyfishing and dune fishing. if you are targeting a lvl 5 fish, use a bait/lure close to its level. many times if you use a higher level bait, you'll catch an assortment of fish that like that bait, etc.
most fish have a "preferred" bait so you'll get more of that fish, but that takes figuring out.
