I don't use anything to turn it off, it turns off by itself after 10 minutes idle, it barely drains battery if it's idle anyway, 40-45 hours and still going strong.

Does the light on the pad change if it's low on battery, or cycle around like the DS3 with the 1234? Mine is still at the upper left since the first day.

that light represent that it's on the controller 1 slot. If you connect a second wireless remote, the light will be in the upper right, clockwise motion fot the additional two.

The light Icarian refers to is both the player slot indicator AND the battery indicator, it will cycle thru all 4 periodically when the batteries get low, even more often the closer to dead they get
