I don't think so. You're free to hunker down in whatever city you want. The cutscene for departure on the airship sorta feels like a grand goodbye from your nation as it is. The only thing that would tie you to that city is your class quests every five levels, I think. The main quests before 15 are tutorial missions and you won't be able to do the equivalent sequence for other cities, as far as I know.

edit: As Rocl said, some npcs will have different dialogue if you're from that city (especially Miounne, Baderon and Momodi) including minor cutscene differences per city.

For people who don't know once you have exhausted the quests you can make an 8 man party with a few people on thm (or anyone who can aoe) and get great exp an hour.

Crafters won't have many issues exping. The crafting log gives a good amount of exp and recipies also grant a good bonus if you go for quality (as you should). On top of that you get exp from trading in items to your grand company (this also applies to DoL) and leves are VERY good if you trade in HQ items.
As a Culinarian I was getting 22k exp from one leve at level 19 by trading in an HQ item (base exp was around 6k, 13k for HQ bonus and the rest from actually crafting the item).

Personally, I liked Fate Farming in East Shroud in a Group to pick up a few levels. I wouldn't advise it before level 12 though.

Didn't they nerf leves for crafters or something in Phase 4? I remember jimmies rustling over that. Still the best use of leves though, imo.

I got that amount of exp in Phase 4. The only downside is that you need to get the items yourself as they're no longer provided by the leve but I'd say it's totally worth it.

I'll level them to 15, then spam dungeons.

While waiting on DF, I go somewhere sanctuary to craft.

Exp in dungeon gives almost 1k that way.

In P4, my archer get access up to Copper Bell, and it's level 20 in another 3 more dungeons.
Then I went to level ACN, up to 15. Repeats...

Further dungeons after level cap lifted, exp are even better.

Definitely worth it. I remember flying from 16 to 19 alchemy right off of doing multiple leves and turning in HQ items.

damnnnnn. Makes me hate the hours I spent over 2 years leveling crafts in 1.0. With just bot/min left to do I'll try to boost those stats and go for the leves. Hopefully the xp will be high. In 1.0 it sucked to level. I did fishing to 50 just because of the grade 10 nodes and how easy it was.

Yep, 200% Exp bonus for turning in the HQ of the item they are asking for.

4000 exp becomes 12000 exp, 6000 exp becomes 18000 exp, etc. Take advantage, lol.

Bio is listed as subbable when it's ACN/SMN/SCH exclusive but other than that everything seems fine.
