I feel like the "optimal" gearing is going to be melded i170 two-star accessories, melded i150 left side gear, and then the crafted/scrip tools. Pretty sure you can hit the minimums with that and not have to figure out where to put 8 different sets of crafting gear in your armoury.

It's grinding for the sake of it.
Even if you could make 180 DoW/M gear today the fact that they threw the normal ilvl progression curve out the window makes it far less useful anyway.

The stat increase going from 180->190 is roughly double the increase going from 170-180.

Depending how harsh the progression penalty is for two-star, Name + Brand may end up being very appealing.

It's worth noting that all three of the following cost 45 CP and 50 dur:

    3x PbP, 2x RS
    Name + 5x Brand (can't have SH1 up for all 5 though)
    1x Muscle Memory + Name + 4x Brand

1x Muscle, 2x PbP, 2x RS is only 36 CP, but requires 3 cross-class abilities.

Also, RS requires active SH2 whereas the Brands only require SH1.

Just a few ideas to consider.

Personally I think Muscle Memory + Name/Brand might be the way to go when possible. Either that or 2xPbP + 2xRS.

There are absolutely 0 2-star CUL recipes, and the only ALC 2-stars are intermediate components for gear no one will be making for weeks.

You can hit the 2-star requirements without Red Scrip gear, or even melding mainhand or offhand stuff, though it does nix some places folk'd normally have +CP melds. The buyable i180 gear is probably intended more for people who only gear a couple crafting classes.

Accessories are cheapest to make, but -- excepting the belt -- they don't have a great return except for the ability to meld tier Vs into them. You're buying 2-4 CP and 1-3 Control and Craftsmanship on the meld caps for all the jewelry pieces, and it's only the ability to more easily hit the caps that even makes that significant. By contrast, the class-specific stuff usually meets the melded i150 gear in approximate value unmelded (albeit trading primary stat for secondary), starts around +20 primary and +10 secondary melded.

That said, the belt is really, really nice.

Idk about crafter´s, but just converted two sets of dragonskin/hardsilver gathering accessories, and all resulted in either IVs or IIIs, not a single V.

With food? Or otherwise very expensive melds? Cause my gear is decently melded, and barely meet the craftmanship, but the control is nowhere near where it needs to be, and I have almost no CP melds on me atm.

Even with Seafood stew, my control still short around 15. FC buff and moar melds I guess? Not like we can make any of that shit atm anyways Lolz.

I don't know if it's accurate, but garland Tools lists the max possible values for all crafted/melded gear.

I've not tried it myself, but an FC mate posted this and it seems to match the Garland Tools numbers. Takes some overmelds, but the worst is a couple Control IIIs, which isn't too obscene. It's not how you'd normally meld -- you're losing a lot of CP -- but if you're gonna replace a lot of the gear anyway it makes sense.

If you have the full i150 set HQ'd, HQ Clam Chowder should actually take care of almost all of the Control gap on its own with only a couple points of melds. I'd personally prefer not to rely on food, but given how rarely you'll be doing 2-star crafts at this point, it's an option.

    lol.

I used this google docs, which appears to be accurate for the pieces I've melded. I do not approve of some of their materia meld choices though (for example, their ears meld only chooses to put 4CP on, but it can hold 8).

If you're already well-melded, I'd just use food to cover the gap in the short term -- even if that means Clam Chowder -- and replace the belt and couple jewelry pieces with your first week's Red Scrip tokens, then doing the control-centered melds on them. No point doing forty melds for gear you'll be replacing in a couple days.

In case you haven't already done them, don't forget that each DoH Lv60 class quest grants 3 T4 materia (1 of each type). Finally, some incentive to actually do them.

Um ... -8 Overmeld penalty? What in the actual fuck. Thanks Yoshi.

    (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

EDIT: Apparently that penalty refers to the chance subsequent overmelds will fail (or something to that effect) /facepalm

But but... if it's a penalty... and the number is negative... maybe the effect is positive?

Actually, even if you went batshit insane and 5-melded tier5 materia (without even looking at what the caps might be), you can't reach the values on the i180 mainhand, can you? Is melding the mainhand ever even necessary?
    i180 : 278 /149
    i170 : 232(+44)/124(+7)

Maybe it is something with GarlandTools ... that isn't on the tooltip ingame. Possible I might have overreacted a little lol

So, these red script items needed to make the new stuff. Are they untradable, or can they be sold on market wards?
