The new crafted gear is significantly better than Expert dungeon drops or anything available from a vendor, and it'll do a lot toward closing the gap into Alexander NM.

You won't use it regularly in the endgame, but that's not the point -- they don't want people dependent on gil expenditures at the endgame, or the repair economy would still look like the bad days of 2.0 where you skipped killing enemies so you'd break even on a dungeon run. The purpose is to avoid having as many folk going into Fractal at i145 wearing all NQ gear while the rest of the group is wearing i190 (or, down the road, i220) and trying to do big pulls.
I almost kind of see your point in a very certain light, but are you lumping dungeons into "endgame content" in that first sentence? Because, as Niiro said, tomes are free.

Also I doubt the people who don't have the time/effort to do dungeons are going to have the gil to buy this super expensive gated junk.

Crafting to me was always a fun side game that allowed to me make money for glamour/materia gear I wanted. Never though of it as anything else, though the perks are good too like repairs and pot/food

And yet, I've sold hundreds of 2, 3, and 4-star items since launch, plenty of them left-side gear and weapons that had what I'd consider superior tome options.

Profitable crafters respond to what the market is, not what they think it should be.

Buyers are dumb yet have plenty of money to throw at you, yes. There are more than enough people who don't check XIVDB or Garlandtools to see if you can NPCbuy something for 10x cheaper for me to know that a lot of buyers are just tunnel vision.

I will grant that I don't have the patience or time to play those kinds of markets. I craft for self-sufficiency and supplementing my raid group / friends. Red scrips system as a whole going forward, despite that I will still be doing it, doesn't look to be fulfilling in that regard. We have a house, I don't see any other point to my gil other than saving time.

I definitely agree that crafting of that intensity is not for everyone. I have a lot of friends that like casual crafting, but mainly do it for self-sufficiency in regards to food, potions, and repairs.

The specialization and red scrip system actually sounds pretty great for them, since they can gradually work toward i180 sets for CUL, ALC, and something else, if they like, and remain capable of making the best food and consumables without tons of materia and gear costs.

It really depends on how the market shapes, and how hard it is to earn Red Scrips. If they take tons of leather and deepeye tears, you only get a few ooids per favour, and HQing the i180 synths with any reliability requires the new gear or a hell of a lot of luck, yeah, then they'll be a curiosity at best. I'm not sure that's the expected route, though. Some hardcore crafters will want the upgraded accessories and main/offhand at minimum, and sometimes even the left-side gear, but folk not preparing for the 3.1 (and anyone who's only leveled CUL and ALC) don't really need to do that. The top-end crafted combat gear is no harder to make than the top-end crafting gear, and in many cases they're easier to HQ (since they don't involve the NQ-only FCIII and MCDs).

It's very easy to overestimate the amount of tomestones, and underestimate the amount of gil, that's available for casual players.

The material limits are still too low even with those caveats -- I never accused the devs of being good at math -- but there's at least a logical shape they're aiming for, even if folk may not do so in practice.

The mad about crafting with the new patch is kind of hilarious. I enjoy both the end-game side of things and crafting side of things, so will be interesting to get with the couple of people on my server and compare what we'll be working on. Plus people will try the i180 crap anyway, and we know it, so.. we'll have to see how that all works out.

If anything, grind it out, complain, hold onto tokens for a possible, but not likely adjustment.

It worked for bards and mch right?

    Omnicrafters will be fine.

People who don't give a shit and just want to sell their red scrip mats will be fine.

People who actually want/need to gear up in i180 will be the ones that get punished by the way the red scrip system is designed.

Completely agree. This will heart the people who want to use the crafted shit for progression. Everything else is whatever; it'll just take a bit longer.

Between Alex gear and Esoterics the crafted gear has no place in progression.

Not to mention the fucked ilvl curve, stat gains double going from 180-190 compared to 170-180.

    I disagree.
Looking at the prices its easily going to cost 1m gil to cap the red scrips every week and i can craft everything myself. If you are lmited on what classes you have leveled it can cost a lot more. Capping points as armorer right now (Adamantite Frypan for 12 points each) would cost you like 4m gil in mats.

No casual crafter is going to bother with this and its not like you can easily catch up later on because of the cap.
You can probably sell red scrip mats and make a profit at the end of the week but then you are getting no new gear.

I see. I have all crafts/gathers at 60, wasnt looking at it from that perspective. For me, cappin either is going to be a walk in the park, only wished there wasnt a cap. I have Birch Longbow for a starred turn in atm and have all the mats in stock and ready to go, just been doin DoL instead xD

I thought I got lucky, only needing 25 of the AST weapon to cap red for the week with gsm:

    200 hardsilver ore
    225 Raw mormorion
    50 gold ore
    50 silver ore
    250 hardsilver sand
    350 aurum regis sand
    25 Abalathian Spring Water
    75 Aqueous Whetstone
    50 Dragon Blood

    1000 wind crystals
    125 Water Crystals
    50 Wind Clusters
    25 Fire clusters

Well...it's the easiest of all my choices, this is gonna take a while

All my turn ins for red scrip are lvl60.
Are you sure its not Birch Composite Bow for yours? Seems weird that you got a lvl58 item.

    The items change daily right?

All of that shit is dirt cheap on the mb, at least on hyperion. 400k max, excluding the clusters/crystals.
