    I know there is a guaranteed 2 rotation, with a chance at 3 and a chance at 4. But a guaranteed 3?
For red scrips? Nope. Sounds like you already doin the best rotation available atm.

Hello BG Crafters. Back in ffxi I used to really enjoy crafting. In ffxiv I'm a filthy casual who has gotten frustrated that by the time I casually complete a gear set (or even before) there is a new update that crushes my "new" gear. Due to this, I was thinking about stepping away from the vertical progression of gear collecting (i180sh right now) and trying out the crafting side of the game. Does the crafting/gathering side outdate everything you worked on so quickly like the battle gear side?

I believe levemate's are the most efficient way to level, knowing these will run out, what else should I focus on? The whole idea of exp instead of skill ups feels weird.

DoH/L gear doesn't get outdated anywhere near as quickly as DoW/M gear. From 2.0~3.0, the game launched with the i55 crafted class-specific gear, then later we got i60/70 sets and that was it. The nice thing about being a casual DoH/L these days is you can slowly build up gear that's close to the best-melded stuff without paying out the nose (costs red scrips instead).

For leveling, don't neglect your Grand Company supply/provisioning turn-ins. They're worth a shitload (or at least, they are after lv50), but you can only do 'em once a day. There's also the Ixal Beastmen quests (N.Shroud).

Hey cdgreg. I think you will enjoy ffxiv crafting coming from ffxi. I certainly have enjoyed being able to control more of the rng factors.

No, it doesn't get outdated as quickly. For instance, best in slot rings at 2.0 were best in slot rings all the way through end of 2.55.

However, the top-end gear hump is pretty high right now in comparison to 2.0. They gated some items really hard. Red scripts (both gathering and crafting) are part of the required items for top-end crafting gear.

Leves are the quickest way to level, however are limited.
Do your GC turnins daily - these will be your best item=reward ratio.
After that leves will be 2nd best.
After that you can turn in items starting at 51(?) to the script turn in person and get exp rewards per item. These are unlimited. Starting at 56 you can get blue scripts as a reward, which are required to purchase your mastercraft 3 books and certain items for recipes.

One tip about starting out, get your gatherer classes fish/mine/bot up first, otherwise it can be very costly to level DoH

Exp instead of skillups is just another way of removing the absurd amount of RNG that was involved in ffxi crafting.

You're not doing this in two hours, hell you'd be lucky to do it in under four!

And of course, the largest road block, it's boring as fuck. I have 2 books so far, and I'm halfway to a 3rd.
Back in my day before the blue scrips buffs, we had to slave away for all 6 folklore books. It took about 8-10 hours per book...

So I'm thinking of taking my alt, which I used to get sealants on and using it to get red scripts. The only drawback is I gotta finish MSQ to do it.

I can't decide what this counts as.

    Win? More scripts.
    Fail. More MSQ.

    First world problems indeed.

I did that with my alt, the MSQs don't take that much time when you skip cutscene. Just be queued for dungeons for XP while you run around doing MSQs and sidequests, it'll be done fairly fast. levelling the DOH/DOLs with a mixture of LQs and Scrips is a walk in the park as well.

Is there still no way to know what crafting books you do and don't have?

Still no easy way. Best way is to find a recipe that you know is master I/II/III and see if its in your recipe log

    Hey guys!

So I'm starting to amass some data from the HW content, and I'm coming up with a few additional theories, and now have a few additional questions regarding the maths behind it all.

To explain, I'm working on trying to get the Master Blacksmith title, to which I've found out that it doesn't matter which item you craft, as long as it's HQ it counts. To that end, I've been crafting Bronze Ingots from Ore, and turning those into Bronze Rivets for efficiency's sake. While watching the numbers, I started searching for ways to make it easier to predict what your Progress and Quality should be when you hit the Touch//Synths. Amazingly, I found this site and all of the theorycrafting therein, which, as a shameless grovel, I'm forever grateful. By using the stats provided, I started away on the spreadsheet, but I noticed a few strange things, and wanted to share it with you all.

Provided stats (where clvl = Character Level, and slvl = Synth level)
    Craftsmanship: 717
    Control: 652
    Crafter level: 60
Base Progress expected at clvl-slvl=0: 152
Base Quality expected at clvl-slvl=0: 269

When dealing with Progression, it seems that there is an even greater boon for Level.Correlation.Factor at Crafter.Level - Synth.Level Greater than 50 (at the very least), which seems to cap at around 60%.

Expected Basic Synthesis progression on Bronze Ingot: 236
Expected Careful Synthesis II progression on Bronze Ingot: 293

Received Basic Synthesis progression on Bronze Ingot: 244
Received Careful Synthesis II progression on Bronze Ingot: 293

Same with Quality, though this time, quick maths seems to say it gets a 4% bonus.

Expected Basic Touch quality on Bronze Ingot: 269
Expected Advanced Touch quality on Bronze Ingot: 403

Received Basic Touch quality on Bronze Ingot: 280
Received Advanced Touch quality on Bronze Ingot: 420

I'm working on a spreadsheet to use the data and get a generalized understanding of what to expect (which I'll happily share once I clean it up), and when inputting the numbers (which I understand are at r^2 = 99.5%), but this data seems rather interesting. I'm going to gather more data on varying levels of Control and Craftsmanship to see what's going on. I figured I'd share my findings with you guys.

Okay, a further analysis using Bronze Rivets (synth level 3), shows the same Basic Touch and Basic Synth numbers, which now assumes a flat 4% increase, using the same stats as above

Also, using ingenuity on a Bronze Ingot (synth level 1), shows the exact numbers as above as well

    Well this is some horseshit.

The item for turn in was Adamantite Broadsword, Starred, for 80 scrips per at base.

I level from 58-59 while making them and this happens:

Yep, had that happen to me twice; now I do turn-ins calculating the xp needed to reach 55, 57, 58, 59
