Maybe if you had the option to AH AF2 instead of wearing it, that would be true. As is, it's just not worth it to wear something instead of selling it, and if it's not worth selling then it probably isn't worth making.

The other solution would be if philo mats were not sellable. That would at least create value at the iLV70 gear phase, instead of creating value at the philo mat phase.

You're spending time farming stones to buy gear you can't sell or spending time crafting/making money to buy gear/mats you can't sell if you decide to use them.

I don't see any difference here that isn't arbitrary.

    And this:

    Makes no sense whatsoever.

If something is worth selling, that means it's worth buying. If it's worth buying, it's worth using.

QED if it's worth selling, it's worth using.

If a piece of gear that you've bought/made is better than ra/ex stuff you could have bought with philos, either sell it for what it's worth and make a profit or use it and have better gear than the alternative.

Plenty of opportunity to make money.
I noticed this in regards to Aeolian Scimitar for the Paladin relic reborn. The history has them 24k to 98k in one day, NQ or HQ.
Sadly I cant make that. So I guess I'll have to scan around.
Armorer at 50, With Steady Hands 2 and all else at 15, whats the next skill I should aim at? I believe Byregot's then Ingenuity?

Byregot's for sure. Personally, I'd do Careful II (WVR50) before Ingenuity II (BSM50), but beyond that priority isn't very important. If you already have Ingenuity in your rotation, then getting Ingenuity II would take precedence, but personally I HQ 1-star stuff just fine without using any form of Ingenuity at all.

As always, recommendations for things like this are purely opinion. I lean on Careful Synthesis II a ton.

I came into ARR with WVR50 already so I have no idea how good/bad life is without Careful II. That said I'm pretty much of the same mind as Raldo. Byregot's, Ingen2/Careful2, then meh.

Comfort Zone is kind of nice to have but it's usually just +14 max CP per synth so whether or not that's worth it depends on how asstastical ALC is to get to 50 for you.

Gil can (ostensibly) be used to buy many different things. Tomestones can only be used to buy things from Team Rowena.

If something is worth selling, that means it's worth buying.
Your chain of logic broke down at the start. If I'm willing to sell something, that necessarily means that I value said item less than the gil I can get for it. Therefore, if something is worth selling, it's not even worth keeping (and worth keeping is still a lower standard of value than worth buying*).

In other words, from most value to least value:

worth buying > worth keeping > worth selling

If it's worth buying, it's worth using.
Sure, I guess. Not really relevant, since if I'm the seller, I necessarily don't consider it worth buying.

QED if it's worth selling, it's worth using.
You seem to be mixing frames of reference; whoever buys it assigns value to it, but people buy (what I would view as) worthless garbage from me all the time. One man's trash is another man's treasure and all that.

If a piece of gear that you've bought/made is better than ra/ex stuff you could have bought with philos, either sell it for what it's worth and make a profit or use it and have better gear than the alternative.
The problem is that (due to the existence of myth gear) iLV70 gear is just a stepping stone, which makes it a poor investment. The stone cost is much more than DL and unless you also throw materia into the money pit, even HQ iLV70 is just a sidegrade.

*You can get into economic arguments of cost vs. opportunity cost, but ultimately it's fairly obvious that you can be willing to keep something that you wouldn't necessarily have paid for.

I'm not doing a million quotes so figure it out:

There's no difference between stones or gil that isn't arbitrary, time is the only relevant currency in this situation.

If you're going to make gear you're either going to make it to use or make it to sell, you speak as if you'd make gear and look at it and think "I can't use this I have to sell it" after the fact, as if you didn't know what the stats would be or what it would cost you to make it beforehand.

ilvl 70 crafted gear is better than DL, ergo is costs more to make, whether you decide the better gear is worth the extra effort is your choice, I don't see what the problem here is.

As an aside about iLvL70 crafted gear, I noticed that it doesn't bind unless you start spiritbonding it, which means so long as you don't run coil with it, you can always sell it down the line.

Gaining spiritbond is what causes all gear to bind.

Well, yes, time is the only relevant currency in the game, if you want to put it that way. And you're correct: I wouldn't make it if I didn't have plans to (at a minimum) sell it. But my point was that in previous FFs, sinking gil into gear (most of the time) was not a complete loss because you could expect to recoup that money when you upgraded. In this game, any money you spend on gear (that you use) is essentially unrecoverable; combine that with the superiority of R/EX gear and it becomes extremely difficult to justify the gil loss (direct or opportunity) to wear crafted endgame gear.

As I mentioned previously, iLV70 gear isn't actually better than DL unless you meld it, which is even more cash in the trash.

You can look at it that way if you want, but for people with multiple jobs the "eventuality" of ilvl 90 gear is on a much, much longer timescale.

Anytime you're talking about crafted gear VS ra/ex gear it should go without saying that melds will be included, they're the reason you would choose crafted gear in the first place.

Important note about this: After the October 15th hotfix, these items will now bind upon first use, regardless of whether that's coil or not.

Hmmm, I never got to bring DRG to coil so I can still sell my DS haub if I wanted to....

Dilemma, +1ing one of my other relics or buying Wyrm body and hawking the haub.

So did anyone test byregot's blessing to see if it actually leaves your inner quiet stacks while just consuming the buff. Using byregots blessing while still having 1000+ control is looking too good to be true.

You keep the control increase, no need to test just look in the stat window.

There isn't really anything "too good to be true" about it as proper use of Byregot's means it's generally the last quality action you're going to use anyway.

So, ilvl70 doesn't sell for shit honestly on Balmung. Had a hq griphon ring up for 4 days most of time for 2 mil. Last day was 1.9. I won't fall into that trap again. Even gonna get worse if the 15th patch increases philo and myth generation.

Hello, I'm a fresh baked lvl 50crp & weaver, am planning to finish my bsm, arm & cul (all near 40) in the next week, then carry on to the rest. I've got a question about crafting my Weaver's set - I wanna HQ it ofc, but atm I'm a bit scarred tbh that I'll invest gil in mats, and later on fail it or worse, make it NQ. This thread is a terribly big wall of text and while I've been reading it nearly from the day it started, I cannot find one thing: is there any guide for crafting crafters' sets for newbros?

Crafting sets are you standard single star synths, with all the skills you have they should be a cakewalk to HQ, probably even with entirely NQ mats. Rule of thumb is use ingenuity for all progress actions and just do the usual hasty spam > byregot's.

Mats for single stars are all pretty cheap anyhow, it's the two stars where you'll start to sweat.

Thanks, another newb question: crafting sets are 1star only, 2stars are the items for DoW classes?

EDIT: xivdb.com shows that the tool you get from your lvl50 quest and the one you get from grinding out the achis have the same stats - so they're vanity only, or is xivdb not listing sth?
