Is there a way to know stat caps without actually attempting to meld something?

I'm trying to meld some pre-30 crafting gear and wondering if there is a way to know what tier materia is ideal. It's item level 28.

You can only put Tier 2 materia on 30+ items, so your choices are pretty clear cut in that regard. As for actual caps on DoH gear, no idea.

That's not particularly useful for the other 49 levels of crafting gear (which is what the guy was asking).

Well, you really shouldn't bother with melding gear while lvling a craft in general.

It's not gonna make a huge difference and you're going to out level the gear quickly enough anyway.

I melded a couple vintage pieces while leveling up some crafts because it made a huge difference and allowed me to HQ items for levequests that I otherwise couldn't 100% with macros. Think it was usually craftsmanship allowing me to finish stuff one synthesis action earlier.

Fair enough, I only had CUL to level in 2.0 so I kind of take things for granted.

Most gear only adds control (aside from body) so throwing a Craft+ on your other pieces could help, but going crazy over maxing melds would be a bit much.

I'd imagine Control is already capped for most non-body HQ gear that doesn't have any additional stats.

I put craftsmanship+3 and control+1x4 into the level 37 Vintage Chef's Belt. (I didn't fail the first overmeld so I kept going, and 1/1'd all 5 lol). Put control+1x4 and cp+1 into vintage smithy's gloves. Craftsmanship+3x4 control+1 into Vintage Coatee.

The cool thing about vintage gear is how easy it is to meld because of the extra sockets. The craftsmanship on the body was hot for a level 37 piece. It was higher than the grand company body that I couldn't even equip yet at the time.

I'm going to redo the first post as I did not properly weigh certain abilities (read: Byregot's) in it. I'm just waiting to make sure crafting isn't adjusted in 2.1 first.

    My preliminary thoughts:

    S tier-
    Byregot's Blessing
    Hasty Touch
    Tricks of the Trade

    A tier-
    Careful Synthesis I/II
    Comfort Zone
    Ingenuity I/II
    Manipulation
    Steady Hand II
    Waste Not I

    B tier-
    Innovation
    Reclaim
    Rumination
    Brands

    C tier-
    Waste Not II

    F tier-
    any ARM ability

Ingenuity II definitely belongs in S tier.

How much Craftsmanship do you need to 2-shot **s (without food) with Ingenuity II'd CSIIs? Is such a thing even possible?

Still feel like Rapid Synthesis gets a bad rap, although admittedly after getting CSII I use it a lot less.

What about Flawless Synthesis? Saw that mentioned as being good for low level stuff, but could never find a spot for it.

I'm in the same boat on Flawless. In theory it's fantastic to be able to guarantee a set amount at any time, in practice it's always been useless.

I see it like CZ. It's a way to close a gear gap. However I always tried to level in the best gear possible (highest quality meant highest xp means less synths and less costs to level), so I never really had a gap to close. If it's not useful leveling and it's not useful on 2-star, then it's not useful.

The bonus CP from CZ is useful in many more situations than flawless would be - but it's still not always needed.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

    Was this posted already? IDK

If valid please put it in the OP:

    http://bucket.bluegartr.com/e24f4f72...3530517016.gif

It's a guide on how to be able to HQ 2-star synths with only one set of crafting gear for all jobs.

[edit] nvm, apparently the guide has been proven wrong. Don't use it lol.

Like CS/CSII, I just can't see where the difference between the two merits one being in S tier and one being in A tier, and I don't think they should all be in S tier.

To be fair, I don't have Ingenuity II, only I. But I don't really see the increase in quality or progress as S tier.

The way I tried to rank it is, if you had to choose between two different abilities (not I/II) and one of them wins every time, that's a clear tier difference. I can't see Ingenuity beating any of the S tier abilities and I see it being a tough call between some of the A tier abilities.

    Is this still current?

If yes, why does he have 5 materias listed for a HQ body AF synth when there are only 2 materia slots? I'm confused.

Each gears can meld up to 5 slots.
You just need to finish the quest where you can get it nearby the quest for melding. (Central Thanalan)

Any slot out of gears available is not 100%. And the chance of successful reduce any further upon 5th Slot.
    For example :
Ring has 1 slot, 1st Meld is 100%
You meld 2nd material at 45%
    3rd is 20 ish
    4th is 10 ish
5th should be around single digit...

I personally didn't go that far yet. Still gathering my necessary materials by SB'ing.

The percentage is more or less there, someone here might be able to give exact number.

Just to clarify - there is a further materia quest which allows you to meld extra materia on to things without a slot. http://xivdb.com/?quest/66176/Melding-Materia-Muchly

This spreadsheet also has alternative paths to reach the cap. While the paths that Raldo outlined are usually the ideal, there might be cheaper ways to reach the cap on gear depending on what materia you might have from SB'ing as well as your server prices.

Since I now have BSM at 50, is there ever a time where I would use Ingenuity I over Ingenuity II?

Only when you need the CP. I actually use Ingenuity 1 more as it allows me to use the CP elsewhere and is enough to let me HQ and CS with the craftsmenship and control I have.
