Depends on how they "progress" stuff.

I'm not planning to invest heavily into current gear, and liquidate most the stored crap I got, keeping a minimal amount for possibilities in 3.0, but I feel that like most other MMO'3, expansions tend to replace everything. FFXI being like the only game with that exception I know of.

Being able to craft 4 stars is enough for me, I don't need IV materia out the ass to craft the stuff, and I get a decent HQ chance so, good enough for the rest of 2.4 for me! Also, they mentioned making crafting easier in 2.45...

Anyway if anything, 4star crafting will be like a entry point into 3.0 or "head start" into crafting making it that much easier to get to Lv60 crafters. (Hate to see what cluster fuck of a recipe menu we got part way into 3.0 if its building off current stuff)

not really bothering with alchemy, but I did cooking and its not bad actually considering its good raid food (GTFO SPELLSPEED) AND, you make 3 HQ per HQ. 9 beans -> 21-27HQ, sell at 10K each actually making decent gil for 270 soldiery, considering every mat except the clusters, is like sold from npc's for 50gish or something cheap.

Rant incoming but w/e, I'm just surprised about the awkward progression with gear, especially offhands.

First they give us Artisan mainhands, great. Not too hard to get, just time consuming with a little challenge thrown in. Then, Supras out of nowhere with ridiculous requirements (fuck MC3 and gold ores holy shit), and NOW Artisan offhands which are REQUIRED before you can even THINK about starting new books and 4 star stuff, with even more absurd requirements than previous gear to make and use due to sealants, and only having one guaranteed Materia slot.

As far as getting sealants go, the Ixal quests, in my opinion, were for babby crafters. Getting to max rank nets you enough to try and make one offhand with knot-bought sealants. For the rest? Tons o' gil or grinding dailies for months and months again unless you kept doing the quests since release.

Using new items like those only available at max beastmen rank, or demimateria from high level desynthing is fine, but why on earth do we need SO MANY of them? Does SE think the average player only levels one craft? I thought all 50 was standard with these insane recipe requirements.

Shit's fun, but these constant holes burning in my pocket due to market competition, shitty desynthing/Reclaim RNG, and ridiculous material requirements are starting to make me wonder if it's even worth going on, unless 2.45's answer to "easier" crafting is a 100% Reclaim, everything gives Mastercraft Demimateria or sealants are tradable at 1:1 ratio because hoo boy am I fed up of catching bone crayfish every day.

Again sorry for the rant, Reclaim failures are gettin' me down.

I haven't had too much bad luck with my reclaims.

the 100 field3's I farmed before a patch that everyone thought would remove wedding gear... lasted me for 5 4star books.

I was lucky with BSM and it only took maybe 14 field3 total, going to do ARM, and gsm then done t('-' ALC

I'll get the off hands at least for the last 2, and start selling sealents (seems to move a lot faster then actual tools)

Randomly, hope they change igenuity 2/1 back to the way it was or something to make 4 star crafting easier. Even if you IV materia out the ass, it still depends on RNG to HQ...

So far, I've spent probably 30 mil+ on getting all the new Artisan's gear HQ (because fuck farming up Ehcatl Sealants and relying on RNG to make the tools yourself). I currently have CRP, BSM, and just recently got ARM 4*-ready. Got uber-lucky and went 3 for 3 HQ'ing the Reinforced Darksteel Wires for the Master II book.

As far as getting a return on my investments, it's going to take some time (still working on getting the other crafts 4*-ready as well), but I've had some good luck making and selling Armoires on my server for close to around 1 mil apiece, along with a few other housing/vanity items. If you don't have any Soldiery to spare, having to buy up 45 Borax at 9-10K apiece and consuming about 25 clusters or so kinda sucks, but it's still very profitable if you can go out and harvest the Ebony Logs yourself. I also still do the Ixal daily quests and just sell the Ehcatl Sealants in sets of 3 when I get enough Oaknots saved up.

I haven't tried HQ'ing any 4* stuff yet, though. I'll have to practice a bit if I'm going to be selling any Wootz armor, though I assume some people would still be interested in NQ versions for glamour. If I recall, the 4* armor designs were based off of FF11 ones, so there's that nostalgia factor I guess lol.

Angry lalafell is angry! (just look at that face!)

As mentioned, I started 2.4 with a few hundred oaknuts, so so far I've spent a max of about 10mil on having crafted the artisan boots, offhands for CRP, BSM, ARM, WVR, LWR, CUL and the 4star books for each (most the cost was from buying 6K shoes to desynth and craftsmen +5 materias).

As for gil making... desynthing allagan gear and selling 4star crafted gears from it is "ok" gil, but because no one outside of glamour fanatics and people waiting for HQ's to drop in price by a ton are like the only buyers (for example that koeing like body HQ for 1mil) because the "high end raiders" already bought what they needed.

For really making steady gil, and tons of it (already made way over what i've spent) you can go...

With some effort/time, its pretty good profit rate I'd say >.> (it is slowly going down, but still good gil)

Gotta sell them while ya can!

They peaked at about 750K, but its slowly goin down now that most people got their tool/artistan gear crafted. oh and yeah I've gotten plenty of nuggets, at least those sell ok too...

Like I said, I just got really lucky - those synths aren't easy by any means. I think I had about 30% HQ on the first one I did and around 17% or so on the other two. =x I was also trying to go for my Supra tool at the time, so I needed some NQ's anyway and wasn't so concerned with getting a high HQ rate.

For me, there's not a solid rotation you can stick to for these synths; you have to be versatile and be prepared to hit every Tricks of the Trade proc you get. I also try to keep Comfort Zone up at all times (I'd say at least 3 times during the synth). You also need to be using HQ Bouillabaisse if you're not already, though that's pretty much a given for HQ'ing anything 3* and up. Point is, you'll need every ounce of CP you can get, as this will result in being able to take more actions for your synth.

Personally, I always do Comfort Zone -> Reclaim -> Inner Quiet at the start of these synths so I'll always be prepared for a "do-over" in case shit gets hairy. Often times I've found that I won't have enough CP left over otherwise, and then I'm screwed, lol.

Progress-wise, I'll usually do Steady Hand II -> Piece by Piece x2 -> Ingenuity II -> Rapid Synthesis x2, and then I'm usually where I can do a single Careful Synthesis II to finish it. You may have to adjust this a bit depending on your gear. Again, you'll want to use Tricks of the Trade whenever it pops up and Comfort Zone whenever it falls off, so you'll most likely have to re-use Steady Hand II or Ingenuity II at some point depending on how the synth goes. Try not to overwrite a buff that's already up if you can help it; it may be more beneficial to use a Hasty Touch to get an Inner Quiet stack depending on how things are going.

After that, it's mostly just using Steady Hand II and Hasty Touch to get as close to 11 stacks on Inner Quiet as possible.

Use Master's Mend II when you get to 10 or 20 durability, depending on how your buffs are doing. If I'm lucky, sometimes I can use this twice during the synth. Master's Mend I and Manipulation might also be useful, but I haven't experimented as much with them. I'd imagine Waste Not I/II might be less useful, as you need to watch for Tricks of the Trade procs.

Once you've hit 11 stacks on Inner Quiet or have gone as far as you can (should be at about 20 durability left and < around 130 CP), I'll do Steady Hand II -> Ingenuity II -> Great Strides -> Innovation based on how much CP I have left and whether or not I get a red/rainbow orb at some point, then use Byregot's Blessing. Depending on how much CP you have remaining, you may want to prioritize certain buffs over others. Then, you should just be able to Careful Synthesis II to finish it; otherwise, if you're not happy with it, or if you fuck up somehow, you should still have Reclaim up.

Again, this method is HEAVILY dependent on RNG, so it probably isn't the best method out there, but it's what I've had the most success with so far.

Every approach to Masterbook IIs is; if you're going in with a set rotation (aside from getting the progress shit done first I guess) you're setting yourself up for even worse RNG fucking.

There's no need to use Reclaim at the start, that just sets your ToT-CP-RNG meter way back for every craft. You shouldn't ever be below 42 CP if you're two steps away from finishing a craft (enough for Innovation+BB), so if you ever blow up too many HT or fail a Rapid then just pop Reclaim then.

@Hiryo. No you can get worse junk from artisan tools. I've gotten a darksteel nugget from my old artisan gear.

Well, how long is two seasons to you? The margins on four stars are insane enough that you can quickly make back the money you invested in the gear. Assuming you got the proper skills down. Four stars aren't something you can stick a macro in and expect to make money.
