I had to change my profile and select my highest level class (but not my main) so I could squeeze out another post. Someone had got the last word after quoting me in a snarky way!

Beta is over. What's is said or done in the OF will be so marginalized that it won't even be as significant as it once was. The OF has developers and such yes, but they won't be disclosing much information outside of talking about upcoming changes to FFXIV, much like how they did for FFXI. It will still be up to the player forums to do all of the main number crunching, data, LS/FC recruitment and all of that, so sites like BG, ZAM, FFXIVPro/FFXIAH will be catering much of the traffic, along with other sites like xivdb.com. Even once dead sites like Killing Ifrit are now picking up on traffic as well.

OF will just remain a cesspool of idiotic posts, albeit neutered now.

I know we're all just jerking off because BG is superior to OF in every possible way but you do know that some people use the forums to recruit for shells, discuss their frustrations on X/Y/Z content in a reasonable manner and generally just for useless banter yea?

It's also a nice vector for the SE robots to speak to us about something they need us to know like event details rather than the Tanaka regime where fuck you shitstains figure it out on your own.

If anyone on PS3 tries to do something shady, it's gonna be even harder for them to run from it to a different server. If you examine a character, and they're on PS3, in the info box it gives the PSN ID.

It's sad. I can't even log in. I just get: Temporary Session is invalid. Please try again. I don't even get to chose a char or anything, just tries to log in with my account management thingie with the 1 time password, the site where you pay for the monthly services of the games. FFXI is on mine, but no FFXIV: ARR yet till we can put in the unlock codes i guess. Pfft. I was in beta, wtf se ? Was nothing like this in beta forums. Posted there just fine.

Official forums throughout XIV 1.0's history were a great source of information. I'm thinking primarily of Sol_Aureus' WHM guide and a few Kaeko/Seiken/Dancing Mad posts, but there were several other assorted discussions. I fondly remember a huge debate about the optimal archer rotation during Darkhold. The signal:noise ratio was about what I expected, and it wasn't far off from what I experienced on WoW's official forums when I played in vanilla and TBC.

Rather than outright dismiss a platform for discussion, I personally find it more productive to use the official forums in whatever capacity I can.
