The experience is really server-dependent. For the people who say "just keep trying," that's not all there is to it. On some of the more crowded servers, you can go for hours without getting online. It took me about 2 hours to get online last night and my experience was not at all unusual based on accounts from several other people I spoke to in my FC and LSes. Unable to update NA/EU for the first 30 minutes, then 1017 for the next 90, sporadically getting into the queue leading to 10102 (maybe three times over the 90 minutes). If I didn't have it set up to automatically retry repeatedly, there's no way I would have waited that long. I had the same experiences every day this weekend (minus the lobby server issue), with at least three other occasions taking over 60 minutes to log in.

I'm confident that their updates and server upgrades tonight will fix it, although I'm glad I won't be playing around the time the servers come back online. They're going to be throttling those log-ins for hours to make sure they don't implode again. Hopefully everything's settled by tomorrow afternoon/evening.

Yesterday was the worst for me as well. I tried logging in (Sargatanas) non-stop for about 45 minutes (while I ate dinner) and gave up.

I'm on Gilgamesh and as long as the lobby servers don't shit themselves I can spam past the 1017s in 10-20 minutes. Yesterday the lobby servers shit themselves: 2002s and unable to load the NA/EU charater list. Took me three hours to get in before the lobby stablized and stopped giving me shit; it only took 15 to get in.

I don't think it's going to help honestly in the short term. They said they had 300k subs and the servers can hold 6k max without crashing, there are 25 servers, so that puts us at 150k people right there, so they'd need another 25 servers just to fill up each one for people already created, not to mention the new people that aren't able to create anything currently.

So they'll add new servers which should help on the lobby getting run into the ground, but each server currently in use will still be jam packed. I think the only way they solve this issue is to open up server transfers now, and allow everyone a free transfer, to try and get people to move to new servers, and then add like 30-35 servers and can always sell off whatever doesn't get used. I'd error on the side of caution though instead of just getting a handful and hope that works. (no idea how many they are planning to add)

Correct me if my numbers are off, going off memory of what they said was current subscription numbers.

Yeah, I've felt the current servers crowded enough as is. Unless they plan on at least doubling the available options (with free transfers, to boot) I don't quite see the problems remedying itself outright.

Obv it's a UI update to recognize the new servers. but most likely just bug fixes and general quick fixes that gil sellers may have found that was leaking lots of gil into the game.

Well, for one the servers can hold 5k people at the same time, while not every player will be logged in at the same time.

Secondly, the servers can hold more people than they are currently. The instance server, however, can not. Lack of worlds to play in isn't the real problem here, but the instance bottleneck not letting the worlds function on full capacity. Which is why SE is throttling the login rates manually instead of letting the queue system do its job.

With the new data file formats, the client has to redownload the entire file, even if only one bit has changed. SE could fix the launcher to unpack, replace, and repack the pieces that changed (that is, unpack the .dat, replace the changed file, and repack the .dat), but from what I could see, they don't currently have that capability built in.

Had to spam for about 15 mins to log in after getting into a 1 person queue initially and now I'm stuck in a loading screen.

Edit - Restarted my client and got right in no problem afterwards.
