And even if Relic maintains a progression of upgrade to BiS (like XI), there's no way to know how challenging/tedious that upgrade will be.

In this system, acquiring soon-to-be-useless/obsoleted gear is the name of the game. Given that you can currently convert stones into gil (via crafting mats), you can spend stones now and start converting stones to gil later, or you can spend your gil now and start converting stones to gil sooner.

Well, that clinches it. You heard it here. Don't bother upgrading your gear at any point between AF/GC gear and Relic/Allagan/AF+1 unless the gear just drops into your lap. You're wasting your time.

Melding onto that HQ Gryphonskin? What are you doing? Allagan gear totally trumps that. What a waste of money.

I think it's more like, if it's possible to skip a tier with your current gear and skill, then making it slightly easier might not be worth the extra effort.

You can't add any more DEX to a spinel.

I'd say a Spinel with Quickarm melds.

DET sucks and you don't need ACC, Toxo ring is pretty lame.

DET is really quite....lacking.

There are other people that have done much more involved and mathy testing but just fiddling around with it on my own with some striking dummies it took roughly 8-10 DET to increase min/max WS values by 1.

It's nice when its on a piece of gear that you're already using, but it shouldn't be the determining factor of choosing a piece of gear over another with the same accompanying stats (See Allagan vs AF2).

If we "pretend" ffxiv to be like wow. gear tends to last 1 year before it is replaced. Even then its a good "lvling" weapon, for some time until you are starting the dungeons and stuff at the cap of the next max level.

of course, this is FFXIV, we have no idea what will happen to gear the next coming update, as its a entirely different game, that has yet to see a level increase... so we have no idea what will be happening. Best to live at the present and get good gear now... (but not make yourself a penniless hobo for the next expansion).

Theirs already a few people that are like "OMG YES RELIC +1... but can't afford to instance with it, no gil for repairs"

Wouldn't a couple Savage Might's still do more than a couple Quickarms?

Possibly, savage mights tend to be much more expensive compared to other materia.

Depends on how much gil you're willing to burn for a small improvement.

You could always meld VIT and/or PIE for a nice survival/song buffer.

Plus I have one buff macro with everything on it; basically fire two buffs, attack, fire two buffs, attack, etc. Macros with /wait just do not work me; even with a 1s wait. Windbite / VB / Straight Shot are shifted up in the priority over Bloodletter to avoid firing BL at the start of fights. Misery's End is always first to maximize its usage without thinking. With heavy crit+, Windbite resets Bloodletter all the time, so it definitely needs to be at least baked into your normal mash attack. Not saying these are ideal; just what I am using for the timebeing. Open to suggestions.

Just wondering about gear choices going into WP/Ifrit HM/AK. I finished the story last night.

As a basic upgrade at 50 I picked up one of the HQ relic base bows (D: 34 DEX: 15 VIT: 17 CRIT: 18 DET: 17) off the market for 11k, before realising it was even the base relic bow. Is it worth melding some materia onto this at the moment with the intention of getting a weapon pretty soon from WP or Ifrit? Having a closer look at the weapon it looks to outclass Ifrit's and the WP bow if I meld it fully.

Apart from that I feel I'm pretty well geared for a new 50, AF base with Merc. pants from WP and lvl 49 accessories (nothing special).

I guess the other option at this stage would be sinking some Tomes into DL accessories? Worth it, or save Tomes?

Trying to decide if it's worth selling my giantsgall longbow or not. Haven't used it yet so it's still sellable. I still have my alesone's songbow in the meantime. How badly would I be gimping myself? (And are there semi-decent alternatives that are better than the songbow?)

I am pretty sure I could sell the giantsgall for over a mil...and that is rather tempting...

I know this was asked over a month ago.But how good are the giantsgal weapons now? I know they can be used and don't bind to your character. But I was wondering if the bow if the worth keeping at all. They are kind of expensive still

Just noticed this macro stuff when you quoted him... I really should make macro's for stuff, I literally am playing the 15 button whack-a-mole game on bard.

(yes I know it looks like a bunch of wtf, but I do pretty good dps with it, even when I'm extremely undergeared, or even missing gear)

Question though (for wolfgang)... if you use misery's end first, you don't get the 1secondish delay to use another ability like you would when using abilities through button mashing? I've noticed if you use anything like silenceshot/bloodletter etc, if you try to immediately use something else (while not officially on cooldown) it still won't fire unless you wait a bit.
