I know it's just to get a "general idea" but damn, I got a "general idea" just by watching what's going on.

Maybe when they get the DoT thing figured out and all the bugs worked out, right now parsers just annoy me... although they do seem to motivate folks if you say one is running, so there's that.

Also on the Macros thing, I agree, I think I said that a while back, that I felt like I was missing out on DPS with all these macros, something just feels off on the timing, the only thing I have now is bloodletter before heavy shot, which still might be slowing me up some, but it doesn't "feel" like it like when I had all kinds of buffs and multiple actions in the macros.
You just can't handle my PLD and WAR DPS Day, admit it.

To me it seems doing it that way is going to have BL off cooldown and just sitting there too long doing nothing, like you're going to miss out on procs because it's not on cooldown?

But for real though, this coming week after I tank my entire academic future this weekend I'll try to take you on a large number of WPs and I can craft you some HQ gryphon accs. I need like 15 more runs to finish my neck piece.

Definitely a possibility, and it will probably happen once or twice during a fight. I think the idea is that if you're using the manual method properly, you won't have it sitting off of cooldown. Breaking it down in the tenths of a second, if River of Blood procs in the second half of your GCD you're losing about half a second of GCD by using Bloodletter before Heavy Shot. So once you've done this four or five times, you've essentially lost an entire GCD round so the purpose in doing it manually is just to make sure you're not losing that time. I dunno, I'll have to give it a try to see what I like more.

Using the macro is definitely more consistent and lazier, but not optimal.

I've seen (awful) arguments for both sides. Some say manual / clicking is inferior, some say macros are inferior. I dunno man, let's just all get together and do deeps.

Yeah, until Turn 4 I noticed no problem spamming the macro. We clear Turn 2 ADS with over two minutes to spare, have no problem zerging down Caduceus before it gets over two stacks (post-split) and all of that. But Turn 4 is a huge DPS check and we're carrying a sub-optimal group anyway (1 BLM) so that extra 20-30 DPS could make the difference between killing the Dreadnought before the rooks drop or not.

Would putting BL in the macro twice work? Or be pointless? I'll try switching my macro up tonight putting BL last and run a few titans with both ways

Wouldn't make any difference, the macro just pops the first thing that is up. So in any situation where Bloodletter is up, it will pop off before HS, but if it's not up (and GCD is up) it will use HS. It all processes instantly, there's never a situation where it will get to that 4th line.

If I could use a Naga on my PS3, I would.

Hell, even being able to put another hot bar on the screen to watch CDs would greatly enhance my capabilities as a BRD. But that's not possible on PS3.

i believe i've read somewhere that by manually pushing buttons you're allowed to hit right before the GCD ends, getting your ability in "early." i think most of us have experienced this before just by straight spamming stuff on lowbie jos, though i've always thought it was just a lag/netcode thing.

conversely, what i also read was that abilities on macros don't "preload." i don't know if this is the case but if it is then manual has to be optimal, correct?

I've heard that macros don't buffer like pure abilities do, but I've never tested it so it's pure hearsay to me.

Also I just did the maths. Never bother making or using Apkallu Omelettes. HQ Deviled Eggs will always be superior in regards to all stats because you will never have enough base stats to equal it.

I thought it was more like the casting in WoW where your spell would actually go off without having to wait for the actual end of the cast bar. There were addons that showed you where the "real" end of cast were on your cast bar, thus queing up another spell at that point was possible. I don't think there's a real "queue" in either game, which makes me think that this preloading thing really only applies to casting jobs. I keep hearing about the buffer thing, but I didn't know that was a thing with instant cast/actions.

Oh wow you can't make the extra bars pop up on the PS3? I know with controller UI you can do it on PC but I've never tried PS3. Can't you just plugin a mouse and keyboard and play like that instead? Would be abit meh tho if your screen is huge cause you'll end up with specs before u know it being so close, lmao.

90% sure this is the case based just on feels. One reason to, unless it really reduces button usage (like BRD BL+whatever macro), have everything on manual buttons.

Related but off-topic tip: do not macro Butcher combo on WAR to also do Mercy Stroke. It's fucking horrible, and I'm half-convinced that stupid thing isn't a real non-GCD.

This is true, it's very easy to test yourself.

Make a macro for any given GCD attack, and put it next to the same skill just dragged onto your HB/XB from the menu.

You can pe-empt/buffer the regular skill slightly before the GCD is actually up, but with the macro you can't until the timer is up completely.

If there's a way to do it, I don't know it. I'd kill to have a six-slot hot bar with all of my CDs on it so I know timers on them coming back up. There is NO space on my cross bar for all of that shit.

I don't even look at DPS rating in ffxiv-app parser, it's useless; I just look at total damage output (which still isn't great but is at least plausible). I've seen wild swings in DPS between two people with similar damage totals.

And yeah, you might as well accept that DoT damage (particularly Flaming Arrow) is totally screwed and will not be tracked properly.

Not even 2 months into the game's release and: PS3 limitations.

The cross-bar and macro systems desperately need improvement and expansion, I foresee the day "PC only" will become the new "JP onry".
