Storm's Path will cover that now.
Storm's Path will cover that now.
i couldn't care less about the TP. we're losing one of the best skills in the game. this hurts
Considering the fact people thought they were taking away a cross-class skill I'd say this falls in line with what Bard was originally intended to be. The Blood for Blood and Internal Release nerfs are disappointing but it's far and away a job destroying nerf.
What's the Allagan Aiming gear looking like, seen changes in gear
The same since it did not have a myth with the same stats.
Ok fine, I get it SE you don't like bard being a good class.
What I don't understand is why didn't they just remove the damage reduction? What is the point of putting -evasion on it? Nothing has any evasion at all, if you're geared properly. Even if you aren't geared and miss from time to time, you can rely on a bard neutering their DPS by blowing all their TP just to reduce the evasion on something.
While they're shitting on cross class skills... where's the 10% damage boost on raging strikes with the trait bringing it back to 20%? Is bard really only supposed to be for leveling to 34 for cross class skills?
What if... a CT boss has evasion up so high that nobody can hit him, and a BRD has to apply Hawk's Eye'd Rain of Death for the alliance to be able to hit? And none of the 12 DPS in the 24 man instance are BRDs.
It's far-fetched but I can't think of any other "use" for this. Allowing acc-deprived gear setups to work in Coil is a shitty use.
I'm pretty made. Our damage got nerfed via Internal Release and Blood for Blood, and they removed one of the best support moves that bard has.
Going to be pretty sad every time I want to decrease damage taken during a speedrun, during titan and new primals, during coil, etc.
If nobody can hit him all Rain of Death would do is make everyone have a 10% hit rate, which would be dumb.
As for the "why", I tend to not ask that because the thing about stats in RPGs is that not all of them will be useful for everyone. It's precisely people asking "why does this skill exist" that MMOs now have elements that do nothing but look pretty in the status window and have almost no branching specs whatsoever. Well I mean, you can apply that same logic to attack down- "if the tank wasn't going to die anyway why did I waste my TP" etc. I know evasion down isn't nearly as useful because people will usually cap their shit before they go in, but it's one of those "use it if you think you need it" things, not totally useless.
I agree I would've preferred it staying damage reduction though, I chose Bard because I thought it'd be a DPS/support hybrid of sorts and that was basically the only ability other than songs that counted as one. It was unnecessary too given that the issue was supposedly about Bard's damage anyway.
Changing Rain of Death was almost certainly a backhanded way of nerfing PLD. Net loss of mitigation for PLD, it ends up being a wash for WAR because they gain the effect on Storm's Path, and if you want that damage decrease you now have to bring a WAR instead of a class you were already bringing anyway.
So much for "we are making no changes to BRD main."
This really has more of an impact than moving Blunt Arrow silence to another class. RoD AoE meant you can throw it on a group of enemies (particularly: late in turn 4) and help out the offtank. Now it's just for WAR to catch up to PLD on 1 target.
They never said they weren't making changes to BRD main. They said they weren't taking any abilities away, which turned out to be true.
Saw this, also instantly thought this was a PLD nerf, not a brd nerf
And the internal release and bfb suck
lol
at least its not as bad as the smn nerf, shit son, as if smn needed that.
At least they gave the lowest dps class in the game, even lower than pld some buffs. (Monk)

"During the previous LIVE letter I made a comment about adjustments to bard, which I think many of you are worried about. The reasoning for adjustments, as mentioned previously, is that bards tend to take away from other jobs that could be used in certain instances. This is due to their ability to deal steady damage in addition to supporting using job abilities. As such, we will be making adjustments to their cross-class abilities. There will be no changes made to archer or bard themselves."
Even if they had said that BRD "wouldn't lose an ability," stripping the damage reduction out of RoD is a pedantic way to implement that promise. That's like saying, "We will not remove any of PLD's abilities" and then saying "BTW Sentinel now gives increased evasion instead of damage reduction."
I interpreted that to mean they weren't changing the sub-class requirements for BRD, but c'est la vie.
Mr. Dan interprets things in weird ways. First it was CLEARLY Blunt Arrow being taken away and even though that was clearly wrong, he is still somehow right.
btw, I clearly called the Shadowbind nerf.
So, yeah.
It's kind of dumb to point fingers at me for getting it wrong when Yoshida straight-up lied in several of these interviews about the nature of the nerf. Unless you care to explain how "there was no change made to BRD itself" or "any change to damage dealt should be recovered by the additional actions that can be performed"?
