I've found this Bard BiS/BiB calculator pretty helpful. If you don't agree with the weighting they have as a default, you can adjust it.

Side note: It's Javascript and occasionally I have to refresh the page to get everything to show up. Also, don't go apeshit and select every option or it will bog down. If you have 2-3 for each slot, it's usually fine.

Lots of math and crap that's over my head, but clearly they put a lot of work into this if you look around their site. I think at some point they referenced BLITZBALL's math too. They clearly have reasons for arriving at those numbers. Whether they're right or not... I can't say. But I will say that when I use the setups they recommend, my DPS has gone up. /shrug

BiB is their term, not mine. Best in Bag (ie best setup with the gear you have).

Very few posts seem to have been made since like October, but from reading the posts I do like Eein's approach towards gathering and applying raw data. The general outlook on the site seems to agree with mine. I couldn't find any methodology behind how the weights were calculated, but that's probably due to all the google doc links being broken for some reason.

I just don't weights. Even Eein seems to view skill speed as mostly pointless so I don't see why there aren't weights being presented that don't factor in skill speed and simply represent absolute increases in damage per hit (time factored for AA only, I guess). And when you're dealing with absolutes, it's incredibly easy to just list the few equations you're going by so people can easily poke holes.

I guess what I really want to see is the equations that people making weights are using before they even get into weighing, and how those equations were created. Weighing methodology can come after that. You can't compare or understand a carry look-ahead adder or a full adder without first understanding logic gates, after all.

The default weight for SKS in Eein's BiS calculator is 0.01 (compare to 0.2151 for CRT and 0.3449 for DET). So that's basically a weight of 0.

So about that macro vs. action bar reuse speed...

While you can "prebuffer" GCD actions (when clicking the action icon and not a macroed action) at ~75% of GCD cooldown, they don't actually execute until the GCD completes. Based on that, I took my BRD out (Skill Speed: 380) and recorded the amount of time it took me to fire 30 Heavy Shots at a training dummy. (All of the following was with a PS2 controller.)

First, I "prebuffered" the Heavy Shot action by clicking it exactly once between 75-85% of GCD recast. Total time- 1:12.23
Next, I made a macro consisting solely of /ac "Heavy Shot" <t> and used the turbo function on this controller to spam it. Total time- 1:14.05

That works out to a ~0.06sec time savings on prebuffered direct action vs. turbospamming a macro. Suffice it to say that if you believe this is significant, you should also be gearing for skill speed.

Long story short: use macros.

Someone referenced this post claiming that macros are always worth it. From my understanding this test only proves that using a TURBO button w/ macros is practically the same vs using direct actions. Would you still suggest that people use macros even in a situation where they did not or could not use TURBO functionality?

I'm a little iffy about that last one, because it looks like it lumped out last couple attempts together. The HP% Widgets were also not updating correctly at the time. Program may have hurt itself in it's confusion.

But yeah, I'd say it's pretty safe to say that bard doesn't need to push for the ~473 accuracy cap. Going down to 450~460 should be acceptable.

You still need accuracy for T1-2 I believe, though a bit less then the 473ish you need for T4/5. Outside of Coil completely though, you probably don't need any. I run Extreme Primals with 406 accuracy and have never missed.
